    Class Project

So I'm not sure how kosher this is with CycloneFanatic, but for my Speech 312 class we are giving our final speeches the next couple weeks. My group has decided to do a speech about advocating for a fall break and a shortened Thanksgiving break to allow a 4 day break and 5 day instead of 9 day weekend. The link is to a survey we created to get some "real" numbers and research. So fellow fanatics I am asking all you current students and/or faculty to help us out with some of our research. Thanks!

    Re: Class Project

This is the worst thing ever, I have a fall break and shortened Thanksgiving break here at South Carolina and it sucks. I miss having the full week off at ISU.

That's why we are looking for survey results to see if it's an issue worth talking about :)

    Good deal

It may also be because it was a complete pain in the butt to travel all the way home on Thanksgiving for like 3 days rather than a week. The fall break hardly feels like a break and you obviously can't go home for it either. So in short, I hate fall break.

    Re: Class Project

I would like a fall break simply because after labor day there is nothing and I live close enough that Thanksgiving is a freaking long time and I never do anything. I would rather have class Monday-Tuesday the W,R,F,S,S off so maybe professors could give a test or project due Monday or Tuesday instead of a week later.

But a fall break would ruin football attendance...

Pretty sure a losing team does that ;), but with a four day weekend people may be more apt to staying in Ames, chilling out and watching football and a party?

A fall break would be great. Split up the semester along with allowing myself and many other farmers to make it home to help out in the middle of fall.

Defiantly don't care for the week in November - nothing to do and its cold out. Would rather have a week off in October.

    Re: Class Project

Another reason behind our idea for a fall break is because many faculty and staff have students at Ames, therefore those kids can not leave, so the faculty cannot either. Same goes for students with siblings in school. Do those extra 2 days at home really make sense unless you live outside of iowa?

As long as they give same amount of time off to staff (not faculty because they already get tons), take as many as students need.

    Re: Class Project

Ive been out a few years, but i wouldve taken the fall break. Dont really need a 9 day break when you've got a month off coming in just a few weeks.

Plus, weekend + 2 days of school then 5 days off wouldnt be that awful for that week. If you didnt have any tests or projects due those 2 days you could probably get away with missing them (likely just 1 class missed per course with mwf and t\th classes) if you did want to just take the week off.

Professors are unable to resist tests the day before breaks. It's science.
