Ok, I can't hold this in any longer, have to share...

So, this has been a horrible year for ISU and student deaths. Unfortunately, I was a family member of one of those ISU students. I don't want to give names, because this story is not about him or the accident, but something that happened later...

Our family decided we would honor the passing of our family member who was an ISU student by wearing our ISU gear to his funeral and in the paper, encouraged anyone who attended to wear theirs if they had any. During the service, we asked anyone who wants to share a good memory of him to stand up and share with everyone. I was asked to open and spoke of our relationship and shared that we had a special bond; ISU. He shared the same passion for ISU that I do and he was only 7 years younger than me, so it was a very pro-ISU speach and many students from ISU came and shared, I even talked about the football game we were at together and how ISU actually beat a good team. Several people stood up and shared good memories. Then, one lady stood up, shared some nice words, then ended in saying, "we'll my daughter goes to the other school in the state, so go hawks!".

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?! Someone died! This is not about a rivalry and getting your team a shout out, it's about honoring him and what he loved. I couldn't believe she said that. I've held this in ever since knowing it is petty, but it really bothered me! I hate hawk fans. Stay classy!

    Thanks, that feels better!

Would have been better to invite the Westboro Baptist Church to the funeral.

First of all, sorry for your loss.
Second, I had a similar situation with a friend of mine from high school, almost exactly a year ago. He passed away and was a huge Hawkeye fan. People were encouraged to wear Iowa gear. I didn’t have any, but had a friend who was about as big a Hawk hater and ISU fan as they come. He wore an Iowa shirt. I never would even imagine someone saying “Go Clones” at that wake or funeral.

How small, petty, and uncalled for. I don't know why these people feel the need to inject that crap into situations like these. Apparently that's all some people have. I had a similiar run-in although at a much less sorrowful occasion.

You have my most sincere condolences for your loss.

Edit: I agree with weR138 - hopefully someone called her out. Then threw her into the turnbuckle and chopped her 10 times.
