    Crittle update and a question

Looks like we're kind of out of the Crittle running:

Don't believe everything that is out there concerning 6'8 Josh Crittle from Hales Franciscan High School in Chicago. What is accurate is that Marquette and Indiana are the current frontrunners, with Iowa right behind them. Not to say that there isn't also interest from other schools, but right now anything else concerning any others right now is pretty much hearsay. However, one other school that Illinois Prep Bulls-eye knows is showing heavy interest in Crittle is S.M.U. In fact, Mustang assistant coach Lance Irvin, who has strong Chicago-based connections, was in the gym to watch a majority of Crittle's games with Mean Streets at the NIKE Peach Jam.

And also, I'm wondering... do we have anything like an offer list updated. Are Davila and Iverson the last two bigs the staff is looking at? I have a lot of faith in their ability but if we swing and miss on both of those guys I have to admit I'll be a little concerned about our long term frontline depth. Is it really down to just Iverson and Davila?

Re: Crittle update and a question

Crittle is a strange recruit...he's not a bad kid...but he's the type who loves to hear himself talk.

He gave that list there...but when I talked to him less than a week ago he was boasting about how he wants to take an official to Ames. Basically, I think Josh tells people what they want to hear quite a bit of the time.

All in all, I highly doubt Crittle ends up in Ames.

As far as the other bigs go, the staff is constantly evaluating 08 bigs...the problem is that there aren't that many quality ones out there.

Keep an eye on the name Mario Little, a 6-foot-6 wing out of Chipola where Otzelberger used to coach. I know that plan wasn't to go JUCO in 08, but I really don't think anybody anticipated the lack of post depth in this class.

I don't know anything about this dude from Chipola, but 6'6" doesn't seem to fit what I think we'll need in the future. I think we need some big bangers. Does Mario Little fit the bill?

Re: Crittle update and a question

you have to think if we dont land a big for 08 that in 09 will we be a frontrunner for a couple high rated ones. they will look at ames and see that they could be the man if they come here. we will be ok if we dont get a big in the 08 class, but if we swing and miss again in 09...uh oh.

Re: Crittle update and a question

i dont get why we are doing so bad recruiting big men for the class. mcdermott is a big man coach but we cant find anybody for him to coach. I really wish zeller would come here. i think with mcdermotts teaching he could really be something special. but most people dont think we have a shot at him

Why would anyone be scared of playing in Brackins shadow? If anything, Brackins being here would make it easier for another big to excel. If I were someone like Zeller, Crittle, etc.; I would love to play along side a player like Brackins to make life a living He&& for the opponents bigs.

Also, forget Homan...does Fizer have a younger brother?

Re: Crittle update and a question

i read a couple articles on tyler zeller and in all of them he has the same list and says there are no favorites, he also wanted to make a decision by the november signing period so he could concentrate on his senior season. i know everybody says our chances are bad but i remember him saying and talking about the relationship with our coaching staff and mcdermott were really good.

I'm a bit surprised we'd go after a JUCO post player, but we definitely need a kid on campus next fall. It's a bit scary going into the 08/09 season with Thompson, Brackins, Vette and C. Johnson to fill 80 minutes in the post. There's not a proven Big 12 post player among the 4 and injuries or foul trouble could spell problems.
