    OK, ISU must beat Iowa

I'm not trying to jump the gun, considering ISU's first "tests" are coming up this week ... but Iowa lost to Wake Forest in the ACC/Big Snore Challenge.

Yes, it was a road game. Check out the other results from WF's home-only slate so far:

Wake has lost to Stetson (whose only other D-1 win is vs Savannah St., which is winless vs. D-1) and VCU by 21 (sort of understandable; VCU is probably an auto-bid favorite that also beat UCLA and came within 5 of Tennessee).

Not the worst resume in the world, and I'm not counting chickens until after the Cal game ... but I no longer view the game in IC as "maybe/maybe not." I think it's must-win in the context of this season.

Re: OK, ISU must beat Iowa

The thing that makes it tough is that this game is pretty much Iowa's Super Bowl. They do have about five fans that care about basketball, but the vast majority of their fan base only cares about this game. It would pretty much make their season if they beat us, and they really couldn't care less about any of the rest of their games.

They'll show up for this one, and our history over there is bad.

We're better, and I'm counting on our guard play to take us right past them.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

I agree that we probably should win this game. However I don't expect to. I can't explain it any better than that.

Even our best teams have struggled at Iowa. We're the better team but we still have to prove it.

"Must-win"? You've got to be kidding me.

In what context is this a must win?
To exceed expectations for the season: Absolutely not.
To have a successful season: Absolutely not.
To make the NIT: Most likely not
    To make the NCAA: maybe
    To go undefeated: Absolutely.

I wouldn't call it a must win but after watching their
second half last night I feel really good about our chances.

You are forgetting one major factor -

To win the Cy-Hawk Series: DEFINITELY.

Thats all that really matters... right?

I expect May, Gatens, and McCabe to all shoot about 85% from three this game, Basabe will suddenly show up, and Cartwright will turn into Dean Oliver. No road games are easy. I'd actually rather have Iowa be somewhat decent so a loss isn't as embarassing.

You may not be trying to jump the gun, but you're doing so anyway.

UNI is certainly enough to worry about right now!

I'm not saying that it means we win a road game but Iowa is BAD.

Re: OK, ISU must beat Iowa

If we somehow beat Iowa and UNI on the road this year. FH will likely start 6-0 vs in state teams in his first two years. UNI and Iowa at home next year, ISU will be most talented of the 4 in state teams by a wide margin.

Re: OK, ISU must beat Iowa

I think Iowa is getting much better. Cartwright is an upgrade of Cully, Gatens is still recovering from his injury, and an athlete like Basabe could really improve as well. May is decent, and McCabe is going to be a solid 4-yr player.

Hopefully they beat UNI before they play us.
