"It seemed like a shaky plan."
If anyone but Fred had said it, it would be worse than shaky.

I love how Fred saw that in him when Diante might not have seen it himself.

Agreed. This really makes me wonder if GM was that bad of a coach to limit Diante like he did. Imagine if we had the playmakers we have had recently to go along with DG's 17 ppg.

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but it just seems like Hoiberg is doing more with less than GM ever had.

Going along with that, as the talent level improves, if we beat Drake by 48 this year....if I'm a bulldog I'm terrified to see what happens next year.

I've stopped wondering if he was that bad. I think Greg's track record this year will really show the value of Ben Jacobson.

I remember hearing that quote about needing diante to be a focal point in one of the first press conferences and thinking 'oh no... there goes this season'

it's still early, but so far i can't believe what a difference a year (and coach) makes

Interesting enough, DG shot about the exact same % from the field last year(43.8%) and better from 3 pt last year than this year. Yet, this year everyone thinks he is shooting better. He is shooting more and scoring more but I guess I don't understand why people claim he is shooting better. I thought his shooting was greatly improved last year and he has maintained it this year.
He definitely looks to be having more fun and has the green light but that would have been the case no matter what.

If I was a Bulldog fan I'd be worried about more things than ISU.

IMO- GMac overreacted after Wesley Johnson left and started babying his stars (Brackins, the greman kid) to keep them happy. Then when the german kid left he realized that didn't work and went back to being a hard ***. Of course after JVB and the german kid left we were so thin we could only play slow down basketball. People seem to forget that we were scoring a bunch of points in the noncon until JVB got hurt, the german kid left and Scotty got mono.

I am glad GMac left and we have Fred but it amazes me how short people's memories are in regards to how we started last year. Like most, Iam excited about the start this year but I am still taking a wait and see approach. We don't know how this team will react when faced with adversity or tough losses.

    Nice national pub and recognition

for a much maligned player. Garrett has been the ringleader. Was shocked though that there is no mention of Jake.

I'm not about to verify your %'s, but I do know that its a heck of alot tougher to shoot a good % when you're seen as the focal point of the offense, than when you're a complimentary player.

I remember that also and thought the same thing. Hoiberg saw something in DG that most of us, myself included, did not see.

We all knew that DG was at his best when he could freelance in space. He is not a point guard that is good in a grind it out system (again, thanks Greg)

Also, I don't think you can just develop a jump shot in the off season but his shooting has improved a lot since last year.

Its amazing what a little confidence will do.

With Brackins, Gilstrap and seemingly everyone else gone from last year's 14-18 squad
They shorted us a win last year!

I think if we had current system in place last year, our squad probably won few more games.
