OWH DFivest ISU Newspaper as they look toward Big Ten

World-Herald subsidiary sells seven Iowa papers - Omaha.com

This is probably the real reason it was sold: focus on Big Ten move.

Midlands Newspapers Inc., a subsidiary of the Omaha World-Herald Co., has sold the Ames Tribune and six other publications in Iowa to Stephens Media Iowa LLC.

Besides the Tribune, other properties in the deal are the Boone News-Republican, Dallas County News, Nevada Journal, Ames About People & Advertiser, Tri-County Times and Algona Upper Des Moines

It would be interesting to see what other Iowa papers the subsidiary owns. If any of them are on the East side of the state, your hypothesis is no doubt correct.
