    Help! Internet advice

Does anyone know of any other internet choices besides mediacom for the city of Nevada? I'm currently using mediacom and I would really like to get out from under their umbrella.

I've heard that there is Satelite Internet available now, not sure if it's true or not. I've been directed to Earthlink when I called Dish Network about service. Not from Nevada so I don't know what else is there but I'm sure there is some way to get another option.

Give 'em a call then. When we moved it was the same thing, website wasn't clear.

    Called and got it setup.

I saw that they are offering 7mbps for $37 per month "price for life." Is that as good as it sounds? Is there a catch?

    Greeting fellow Nevadian

We're using Iowa Telecom for our phone service and our internet. We've got high speed through them and I set up a wireless network using their high speed modem and a Linksys wireless router with no problems at all.

    Hope that helps.

You have to sign a two year agreement, similar to cell phone contract, but the price is guaranteed until you change services (i.e. faster connection) in the future. You also have to have a qualifying home phone package (i.e. $25/month or greater). Something more than just the basic phone (i.e. caller ID, voice mail, 3-way calling, etc.).

Try their website...they have a place where you can enter your phone number, and it tells you if service is available there.

Of course a phone call to customer service will probably work also. when I entered my phone number initially, it said service was unavailable in my area. Yeah right!!! I live in the middle of Ankeny.

2 year commitment and you have to use one of their big plans for home phone service. And you won't get 7mbps, you will get 1.5mbps. I am not sure where you can get 7 at, but I want that. It would make downloading pr0n, I mean clips from cyclones.com easier.

EDIT: You suck psycln11! You beat me to it again!

Does it matter what part of town you live in? We're south of Hwy 30. I know it matters when it comes to utilities.

Shouldn't. We used to live on South 13th Street and had Iowa Telecom for our phone and internet service.

Any relation to the shot-putting Crawford from Nevada?

Im just glad I have Homan as my bodyguard, Eustachy joked. If I ever make it real big and get to drive a limo everyday, hell be driving it. I thought he came off the bench like somebody was stealing his cow or something.

Speeds and availability matter for broadband. There has to be a station within a certain distance in order to get certain speeds or anything at all.
