They should be ranked higher if you ask me.

I didn't think they were that good, maybe they are. It just goes to show you how much scheduling impacts a team's appearance on a national level.

In a note of interest, Iowa still received a vote in that poll. How in the world...?

I'm guessing it is the fact that a certain Hawk homer who works for the Cedar Rapids Gazette gets to vote.

Well, on the upside, that means we beat at least one ranked team this year.

Yeah, but at the end of the regular season the only team we beat that is ranked is Northern Illinois.

I think a huge part in their success is the fact that they switched their QB. The one they had in against us is now 3rd string I believe. If their current QB had played against us it would've been a whole new ball game.

Re: Former ISU opponent NIU now ranked 23rd

This is why you schedule teams from the MAC or Sunbelt instead of teams like UCONN or Utah. We beat even the best teams in the MAC.

This also shows we had a pretty good team this year. We beat two bowl teams, a I-AA playoff team, and were 15 points from winning the North Championship. We win that Nebraska game and the MIZERY game would have been for the North title. We were that close to playing in Dallas next weekend.

I know with everyone's love affair with CPR I keep hearing we are headed in the right direction, guys are playing tough, etc., etc. I think CPR is a great coach for us and I am happy and feel lucky to have him. But I will remember 2010 as another season of coulda shoulda wouldas. We were at the edge of building on a previous year of exceeding expectations. We needed to exceed expectations again, build on 2009, and take a step forward to do something special for this program. Instead just like in 2005 we just didn't take that next step and build on 2004 (and eerily similar to 2005 a tough D just needed a few more points from the O).

I will always look at 2010 as another season that could have been.
    1. We had 9 winnable games (sub in another MAC or Sunbelt team for Utah and there were 10 winnable games there).
    2. This schedule didn't turn out as tough as everyone projected (plus us putting Utah on there made it tougher than it needed to be).
    3. We had a chance at a north title, a goal that will not exist in the future.
    4. With 8+ wins and North Title you would guess we would have been bowling in the Cotton, Alamo, or Holiday.

I think the disapointing side of the ball has to be offense. Put a few more points on the board and we are playing in Dallas next weekend. Is there some younger talent that can start to let Herman open it up a bit? Is this Jared Barnett going to match his system better? With a 9 game Big 12, UCONN, and Iowa we need to score more points and stop relying so heavily on our defense. Tough to do when you lose the O talent we are. It is going to be tough to reload that quick. Another reason it was important to do something special to build confindence in 2010 as it might not be attainable next year.

Re: Former ISU opponent NIU now ranked 23rd

Sagarin has us at 60 and them at 52 I believe. We were in front of them all season until Colorado loss.

They're good, but not 23rd. They'd have finished ahead of KU in the Big 12 but not in front of anyone else. They could have easily won the Big East though, they're ranked ahead of 6 of 8 Big East teams in Sagarin.

This is why rankings are a joke, and why people never know if Boise or TCU are legit.
