27% of the Big 10 won a championship today

Weird to see Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Ohio State all celebrating conference championships today.

I'm definitely not a fan of these shared titles, there can't be 3 teams that are the "best" in the conference.

The nice thing about a Big XII round robin with no championship game, there will be very little chance of any shared titles.

I believe there is only one scenario where it would happen in a round-robin.

Guarantee it will happen even with a round robin. Look at the south a couple years ago. Hopefully it doesn't I hate shared titles also even though the hawks have had some.

Yes, it's possible but when was the last time the PAC 10 had a shared title?

36% if you count Iowa, which their fans surely are.

It's dumb, but the Big 12 does the same thing and recognizes "co-division champs."

They at least don't give out the trophy, but as far as the Big 12 is concerned it's handed out 36 "regular season conference championships" in 14 seasons.

And if Oklahoma wins tonight, you can add 5 more (or 42% of the conference )to that for this year. 41 in 15.

Actually ISU has a trophy for the North from 2004, even though it was shared and we lost head to head to Colorado that year. Not a fan of it but I am sure most conferences do that, at least for the divisions.

It is very easy for three or more teams to share a title.

    Team A loses to B, beats C
    Team B loses to C, beats A
    Team C loses to A, beats B

Each team ends up being 1-1 within the group. Thus, most of the tie-breakers don't matter so it ends up going to BCS rankings again.

On a side note, why doesn't the Big11 get the same scrutiny and bad press that the Big12 did a couple of years ago? At the time, everyone with a microphone in front of their face was commenting on how the BCS rankings shouldn't be a way to determine conference champs and the Big12 should change their process. Now, it is no big deal since it is the Big11.

Wow. I didn't know they actually awarded a trophy. But I agree, not a fan.

Counting "co-conference titles" where you lose the tie-breaker should be up to the Tom Kroeschell's of the world to be included in cute little game notes and such. The conference shouldn't recognize it if you lost the tie breaker. Isn't that what the tie-breaker is supposed to do? Break the tie?

If you don't get the spoils (conf title berth, BCS berth) it shouldn't count. Like you said, I'm sure it's that way in every conference, and it's just as dumb in every conference.

It was only a big deal because it was likely that whoever was picked to represent the south would end up in the national title game and Texas was being left out even though they beat OU. The same is not the case for the Big 10 this year.

Iowa fans are constantly talking on their boards about how it will be much easier to win a title now with the divisions format. Uh... major first grade fractions fail.

    4/11, 3/11, 2/11 and even 1/11 are all > 1/12

It's painfully simple, yet might as well be rocket science to most of them. How these individuals got out of grade school blows my mind.
