The rest of the Big 12

Colorado is 2-2 with a bad loss to San Francisco and a relatively close win over a terrible Idaho State team.

Oklahoma is 3-3 with a blowout loss against a bad Virginia team and a loss to Chaminade.

Nebraska is 3-2 with a very bad loss to Davidson.

Texas Tech is 4-1, but they struggled with Liberty and lost to North Texas.

Texas A&M is 4-1 with a loss to Boston College, who was picked 10th in the terrible ACC.

Oklahoma State is 4-1 and lost to Virginia Tech today, and they struggled with a terrible DePaul team who is getting blown out by Cal State Northridge right now.

Missouri is 4-0 but hasn't looked great against a bunch of cupcakes.

Kansas is Kansas and Texas has looked better than expected so far. KSU struggled agaisnt Duke, but they've looked ok otherwise. Baylor's wins have been closer than I would have thought thus far as well.

We may end up not being that good, but we've looked better against weak competition than most teams in our conference. Right now I think we're probably better than NU, OU, CU, and TTU. I would be shocked to see us finish last in the Big 12.

Oh, and we're still in first place

Yeah, if we can stay injury free and keep up this intensity I see no reason why we can't be a middle of the pack team this year. Maybe not top half but at least 7th or 8th in the league.

Re: The rest of the Big 12

Big 12 is top heavy but after 5th place or so it's wide open. You can pretty much count on Kansas, K-State, Baylor, Missouri, and either OK State/Texas making the tournament. It's going to be difficult getting into the top 6. OK State and Texas are shaky but the other four teams I mentioned aren't. I don't think Texas Tech is any better than us and we get them at home. Texas A&M is a wild card. Not sure what to expect from them.

Re: The rest of the Big 12

It's how you finish not how you start - see how we started and finished last year. If we can beat UNI, VA and Iowa on the road then maybe we talk about finishing in the middle of the Big 12. Injuries, illness, foul trouble could hold this team back in conf play - wait and see and enjoy the ride.

Re: The rest of the Big 12

Tech, OU, Nebraska, and CU are thus far very average. I don't get the optimism for Okie State - James Anderson and Obi Muonelo were their entire team. A&M isn't tearing it up, and Missouri is somewhat "struggling" in their wins. b12 very underwhelming thus far - feels like a 4-5 bid league this year, not a 6-7.

Re: The rest of the Big 12

Obviously, the Kansas schools and Missouri are awfully good, but I agree that other schools aren't doing to their lesser opponents what we are, and some of ours are supposed to be tourney teams.

We'll be competitive against a lot more teams than people thought. And I stand by my preseason assessment that I refuse to be impressed by a Colorado team until they go out and prove it, which they never will.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

Re: The rest of the Big 12

I'm not ready to say Missouri is good yet. They haven't played anybody, and they haven't blown out the nobodies. (Western Ill by 5, Wyoming by 10, LaSalle by 12).

They have a test coming up next Tuesday against a very good Georgetown team.

Agreed. They need to figure things out soon because they aren't playing like a top 25 team.

Mizz-urah has a way of catching fire partway through the season. I projected Missouri as 3rd in B-12 this season it's looking like a stretch so far.

Re: The rest of the Big 12

To be fair to our early opponents, there wasn't any videotape anywhere of a Fred Hoiberg coached team that would help them prepare. As we move along other teams will be able to see our specific weaknesses and strengths and be able to do a better job of game planning.

Colorado lost to Harvard today 82-66. Looks like they aren't anywhere as good as people were expecting.

aTm beat #20 Temple by 3, but Temple hasn't looked very good.

ISU was 6-0 last season and looked good doing it. These early games don't mean much as coaches are often experimenting with different lineups.

I can't wait for our games against Missouri! You talk about an up-tempo game. Fast, hard-nosed defense, and alot of scoring. WOW I hope we can steal one of those games.
