    Recruit: Devondrick Nealy

There is a new story posted on iowastate.scout.com that talks about Nealy's growing interest in Iowa State. Rivals had Iowa State as his favorite from Spring until we signed Robert Standard. He is an upper three star at 5.7 and is ranked the #7 RB in the nation from rivals. This would be a big recruit talent wise for us to pick up. I know he's coming from a position that we've already covered but boy would it be nice to have him. Rhoads said earlier in one of his call in shows that he would rather take talent over positional needs. Without a doubt Nealy would be the highest recruit from this class and the highest recruit since Sedrick Johnson (we all know how that has turned out). Hopefully we can convert some of these RBs to other positions.

Article clipping says ISU entered the picture because we recruited them heavily and we said he could start for us right away. I'm not sure about that with SJ. I guess immediate playing time could be possible but he would be jumping over so many players with White, Woody, Standard, Hollis, and even, dare I say, Bo Williams.

This is what I was thinking. But when was the last time we got a recruit inside the top ten of his own ranking? I would love to see us build talent with the last couple recruits (coupled with some DTs).

    Re: Recruit: Devondrick Nealy

To be fair, I believe he is the number 7 multipurpose back.

I also believe he will be more of a slot receiver type.

I would love to see him on our roster and if he could play slot I would be ecstatic to get him on our roster. Not that you can ever be too deep at RB, but we need playmakers at other positions.

This. I was just thinking that he could be a Percy Harvin type player. Maybe Chris could get an interview with him. He did say that there would be more of a focus on recruiting now that football is done.

That's the type of player I see him being. We also just got a huge help last week with Michigan signing it's second all purpose back. I thought they were his favorite but now I am going to guess they won't take him or he won't want to go there. He would probably be the best player we still have a shot at.

    Re: Recruit: Devondrick Nealy

With the recruitment of Nealy and McDaniel, it really looks like the staff wants a slot receiver/RB combo kind of player. Having somebody like that, plus a guy like Ja'Quarius Daniels who could possibly line-up as a TE, WR, or wildcat QB (just my guesses), adds a lot of versatility to the offense.

Imagine having Barnett/Richardson, Daniels, Johnson, Nealy, West/Lampkin, and Ecby all on the field at the same time. There's a lot you could do with that. Or you could maybe even take out the QB, have Daniels play wildcat QB, and bring in another WR, RB, or TE. I get the impression that's the kind of offense that Herman wants to run, with endless possibilities.

Wasn't Gary a pretty big RB recruit for Arkansas? And we have him here as a WR? Same type of guy right?

We could also move some of these guys to defensive back. I think Iowa was the team that had 18 kids on there team that were QB's in high school and they found them new positions.
