    Re: McCarney to North Texas?

You would think he would rather be an assistant or a coordinator on a bigger team than be at the helm of a small school.

    Yeah TOAST!!!

    Re: McCarney to North Texas?

I think it is a pretty big school and has had modest success. Still a head coaching gig.

I've driven past their stadium on I-35 a few times recently. They've been doing some massive renovations (unless it's new?). It's a decent sized stadium.

Maybe his Fry connection. He was the coach there from 73-78.

    Re: McCarney to North Texas?

He posted about it yesterday as well, with Urban Meyer not having a great season and retiring once already, he may not be feeling real stable in his current position and is ready to call the shots again. After Todd Dodge killed UNT, he is stepping into a job that has almost zero for expectations and a 3 win season is going to be a good thing for them.

    Re: McCarney to North Texas?

At his stage in the game, not sure why he wants the stress of a head coaching positon, but good for him if that's what he wants.

Depending on who is reporting it, twitter is a hell of a lot more reliable than stupid bleacher report.

Yeah, it is a big school in terms of enrollment but not in terms of athletic or football relevance. Modest success would be generous...especially in terms of what conference they play in.

The head coach they just canned became their head coach directly from a high school head coaching gig and, to my knowledge, never had any college coaching experience.

The bottom line is that this is really the only type/level of head coaching job that McCarney would even be in the running to get.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.
