    does anyone care?

about the new basketball team Iowa Energy. I think it's O.K. that they are offering another form of entertainment. However I don't think I will ever see the team play. My money from November-March is tied up in ISU football and ISU basketball. It seems they are getting a lot of attention for a NBDL team. They act like they are the I-Cubs. Let's get this straight. THe I-Cubs work because people like to go sit outside. Watch some baseball in a Nice Stadium in the summer with there kids. I don't see people wanting to get bundled up and go watch b-list basketball. Your thoughts.

    Much more so than hockey.
I enjoy the NBA, and this might give me a little local taste.

First year will depend on who all is on the roster, after that it will depend on who they have and how they do. I've always been a Bulls fan, so interesting to see their ties with them and the Heat.

You don't have to draw a lot to be considered a success in the NBADL. They'll throw Stinson, Blalock, Haluska, some other guys on the team from local squads to increase the media attention. I think they'll do alright for themselves.

If Des Moines can support TWO minor league hockey teams, I don't see why they can't support a minor league basketball team.

    Re: does anyone care?

It will all depend on ticket prices IMO. The I-cubs are uber-successful because it doesn't cost $20 per ticket to watch them like it does for the Iowa Stars. Tickets are cheap, nice stadium, good product equals success.

It sounds like the D-League tickets will be reasonable but their definition of "reasonable" has yet to be seen.

    Re: does anyone care?

I'll probably catch a few games out of curiousity. I'm sure there will be players with Iowa ties on the roster and I'm glad they are getting a lot of attention because without it no way it would work here. From everything we've been hearing I think the ownership and management wants to create excitement around this team and that is key to getting fans to come to the games. Plus tying in with the HS games was a smart marketing move as well.

It sounded to me like the Iowa Stars were treading on pretty thin ice when it came to attendance last year, even though they went deep into the playoffs if I read the Rag correctly....

it really will depend on who they get on the roster, but I really don't forsee half of the lower ring in Wells Fargo filled with "fans" on a given night...

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.

    Re: does anyone care?

I don't think I would say the area "supports" 2 hockey teams. There are 2 teams in town but the Iowa Stars had a hard time drawing a 1000 people to some playoff games. And this is hockey just below the NHL. The Junior A Buccaneers will draw fans as long as they are succesful. But you don't have to look back too many years to see that people didn't come when they weren't winning.

Not nearly as much as the Iowa Stars. They play at a very high level, I cannot stand the NBA, but still *like* the NHL.

    Re: does anyone care?

I would rather watch the NHL on tv over being at a D-league game. Even if local Iowa boys are there, why would I care more? The Bucs have maybe 1 player a year from Iowa if any and they do fine.

I'm considering getting the $99 season tickets, even though I will have ISU season tickets. I just hope the games arent on the same days/nights.

Good point...how many Cubbie fans would there be here if the I-Cubs weren't here?
