    Doug McDermott

I know you probably don't want any Cyclone fan gushing over a player from the Blue Jays, but Doug is going to be a really really great player. He tore us apart down low as a true freshman. He has also been playing really well so far this season. I wish them nothing but the best for the rest of the year. Doug has a bright future for himself. He's a very mature player for a freshman.

Well, I wanted Doug at Iowa State but for some reason his Dad didn't want him here.

I thought about this quite a bit back when McD was still here, but looking back, I'd place a good bet on Greg knowing that his time here was limited, and not wanting to put his son into an awkward situation that may have lost him eligibility. Either way, I think it worked out best for everyone involved.

    Re: Doug McDermott

Doug was one of my favorite HS players to watch. Was really looking forward to seeing what he could do at UNI. Now that he is at Creighton I don't care as much.

    Re: Doug McDermott

Doug is going to be an excellent player in the Valley. I wouldn't put much stock into how he did against ISU. That's going to happen quite a bit to us this year down low. I was surprised how many minutes he played. I feel bad for Ben Jacobson at UNI for losing out on him so late in the recruiting season. Clearly, that's a significant loss.

You do realize that Mac isn't here anymore. That's why Doug isn't here.

Doug isn't here becuase Greg didn't think he could play in the Big 12. I think he's a much better player than he thought he was going to be...

    Re: Doug McDermott

Doug committed and signed with UNI well before Greg had left Iowa State and before Dana was recruited to go to Oregan. He never was going to be a big Cyclone, just a lil Cyclone. He's a very polished Big Man and will do great against Valley opponents.

If you were Greg would you of brought your son in?
Dad landing on his feet worked out well for Doug as well.

For those that haven't seen Doug play, who does he remind you of? What former Cyclone does his game resemble?

I think that is because his Dad was a major college coach. No recruiters in their right mind would think that they could lure the son of a coach away so why waste time recruiting him. Can anyone name 1 major college coach who had a son play at a another school while he was coaching? That is almost what happened if McD had stayed and that would've been crazy. I always thought Doug would be a great player at ISU and I never bought any of the reasons that people through out there why he wasn't coming to ISU when his dad coached her. Plain and simple, McD knew he was a bad coach and on a sinking ship and didn't want to take his son down with him.

What I was told was it was decided that Doug was not coming to ISU because his dad was most likely not going to be at ISU long term. When I asked if that meant that GMAC was expecting to be let go, I was told that was not the case. GMAC was considering leaving on his own. I was told this at the Baylor game in Waco last year. I also asked if Doug was a B12 player, and I was told emphatically "yes".
