    The Offense

After yesterday, we are ranked 98th in scoring offense, and 100th in total offense in the NCAA.

That is 2 years in a row now, that we're right around the 100 mark.

If it is your one and only job to move the football, and you rank nearly dead last in the entire country in that category, should you not be questioned about whether you know what you're doing?

It just pains me to watch our offense. It is horrible. I do NOT want to see the same crap again next year. There had better be some fundamental changes made.

But wait I thought in year two, Tom Herman's offense is supposed to take huge gains. Remember hearing that all offseason?

    Re: The Offense

Based on what we have seen we will take a step back in the QB department which is not good at all. WR's with bricks for hands, some poor playcalling and an underperforming OL.

Is it time to bring back Steve Loney?

    Re: The Offense

We knew before the season started that we were EXTREMELY limited at the WR position.

I was a bit disappointed that we couldnt run the ball better.

I would be curious to see how well any other OC in the country would have done with this skill set.

That was something that really sucked, A-Rob is a great back and, while I don't expect him to get drafted, will very likely at least make it into a training camp as a free agent and get a chance to state a case for making an NFL team. But our O-line just couldn't give him the room to break a lot of big runs. Not to mention our total lack of a passing game allowed defenses to stack the box against him.

I know it was only one game but I think that our most glring weakness in the skill positions is WR. Holy crap did they drop some HUGE passes last night and they were WIDE OPEN.

    Re: The Offense

The thing that gets me is how many dropped balls there have been all season. Honestly, AA may not have been the greatest QB, but it is a wonder his stats are as good as they are with all the drops. You can't open things up when every time you throw deep it goes right through the hands of the receiver.

I don't know about getting rid of Herman. I actually think the play calling is the best I've ever seen at ISU, just poor execution. I do think Rhoads should take a look at Wells because that is a position that has not developed and improved like it should. We have talent at the wide out position, just not execution! To many dropped balls and the receivers almost seem scared of the defenders.

    Re: The Offense

I think Herman is a great coordinator. The main thing with the team this year, with a team lacking playmakers out wide, and a depleted line is to stay within yourself and not beat yourself. I feel like he put us in positions to be successfull but we just didn't make enough plays. Thats all you can ask of a coach. With a line with hopefully more depth next year and a qb with more consistency, I think he can do great things with our offense.

I dont think you make the call on TH after year 2, thats not fair... but if after year 3 things arent at least improving, the seat will definitely start to get warm.

Final home game with a bowl game on the line...the staff and players have to find ways to put points on the board. If the players and staff are not up to it then we need to find those that can. I hope PR has the will to make necessary changes in his staff and with player personnel.

Like we say down here is Texas, you can't get blood from a turnip. OC's have a hard enough job getting results from the guys the recruit. Can you imagine trying to get results from guys someone else recruited. 2011 will be his first real season with "his" recruits at the skill spots...minus Tiller. I think Gary, West, Blanton, Young, Shontrelle and Hollis at RB, Lenz, and even Tiller gives us a more explosive crew at the skill positions. Throw in Barnett and/or Capello at QB, I think Herman will be able to use this offense more effectively. This is no different that any other management job, you have to have "your" guys in place because it gives you a level of comfort and confidence. It will be a learning curve for 2011 because of the inexperience at QB. But the future is definitely brighter because you have guys in your system that are "your" guys.

Herman should get at least 5 years just like the rest of the staff.

    Continuity builds a winner.

None of those guys were good enough to beat out any of our top five receivers this year. Unless our WR position is really difficult to learn for some reason, I don't see much reason to put much hope in Gary, Young, or Blanton. Maybe West, if he was just not physically ready to play this year. WR is a position where you don't see many guys develop into playmakers. You either have it or you don't from the get-go.

    Re: The Offense

Lets face it our receivers were terrible this year. If any of them could figure out how to catch the ball we would have won at least two more games. You get a couple of decent wide outs in the mix we're winning the north this year.
