Pollard on AM 600 last night

Anyone else catch Jamie Pollard on AM 600 last night? He did a great job of not taking the bait from Hawkeye Homer Bob Bruce. Bruce bought up the Iowa game ticket issue and tried to make Hawk fans the focus. Pollard reminded him that two years ago ALL of the single game Iowa game tickets were first offered to and were ALL purchased by ISU season ticket holders. So in essence the status of the casual Iowa fan is EXACTLY the same as it was the last time they came to Ames. He also reminded them that he is our AD and not theirs.

Then Bob started blowing about the Big 11 Network and asked if the Big XII was going to "copy them". Jamie again had to remind him that the Big 11 Network was not designed in response to Iowa fan's God given right to watch every single Iowa game on free TV. But rather it was created due to the high percentage of Big 11 alumni that live outside of the geographical footprint that the conference covers. That is not as prevelant in the Big XII. He also mentioned how the Big 11 Network opened up more potential free TV slots for us !!

    Stay the course Jamie!!

So, was Hawkeye Homer Bob able to deal with ADJP's logical, rational, well thought out answers, or did his head explode?

Re: Pollard on AM 600 last night

Sorry I missed it, I have been saying that all along. Casual hawk fans have not been able to get tickets in Ames for years. Casual ISU fans have not been able to get ticket in Iowa City either. I am not sure how any of this has changed. The only difference here is that ISU fans that want to go to the game have to pony up instead of having a friend buy the tickets for them.

Now hold on right there....I happen to know for a FACT that the sun, moon, earth and stars...heck even time itself...revolves around the Hawkeyes. EVERYTHING that happens is in response to or a result of the Hawks isn't it?

I believe he will. I wouldn't be surprised to see a similar ticket scheme next season with the "no single game tickets" being for the Nebraska game.

It works out nicely that home games with Iowa and Nebraska are on alternating years.

Re: Pollard on AM 600 last night

Husker fans already buy up season tickets in droves. I know several from my church that are husker fans but get ISU season tickets every year. Last year, a friend from church said he was surprised to show up to ISU/NU game and find the same people there he sits by every week, except they were wearing Nebraska gear.

I'd BET THE FARM (if i had one) that next year Nebbie fans will either pony up for season tix or they will be sitting at home and NOT at Jack Trice.

Re: Pollard on AM 600 last night

I do agree with wartknight that more Nebraska fans will buy season tickets just to see the game than Iowa fans will this year. Some of them are on the list to get tickets at NU, and right now, it's the only way they'll see a game.

Re: Pollard on AM 600 last night

I'm not so sure about next year. I think part of the attraction for this year's season tickets is the fact that Texas and Oklahoma are part of it.
Next year, we won't have that.

I could see JP making them buy tickets to the Nebraska game along with another "lesser" game. In order to get tickets to Nebraska you have to buy tickets to South Dakota State or Kent State. Something along those lines.

I just don't think that there will be enough appeal that Nebraska fans would buy a season ticket and be able to get rid of the rest. An Iowa fan could do that this year.

I noticed the same thing myself at last year's NU game. It's even worse when you find out that those same husker fans grew up in central Iowa. Most of them were probably teenagers during the early 1990s when ISU won as many games as Nebraska lost. In 1994 that number was 0.
