    Practice Question

I was wondering what the procedures were on practicing now. I know the biggest perk of getting a bowl bid, especially for a mid level team like us is the extra 15 practices. We will more than likely be missing out on them now unless we get lucky enough to get tapped to go since their won't be enough 6-6 teams. Anyway, since we didn't have a bye week, and since championship Saturday is two weeks off, are we still able to practice the next two weeks or since we are done with our schedule are we done practicing too? An extra 6-7 practices without any game prep would be better than none.

    Re: Practice Question

I would say we have a zero chance of making a bowl game this year. So, why practice then?

Reps, reps, and reps. An extra few weeks of practice is a golden opportunity. An extra 15 practices for a bowl every year would mean an extra 60 practices that red shirt seniors have had by their last year. That's almost an extra year's worth of practices.

That is a really good question from the OP though, do we get to keep practicing until the championship game? My guess is no but I've seen weirder rules from the NCAA.

Practice is extremely valuable, especially in a situation where we are replacing a main part of the offense. Unless somebody else steps up it looks like Tiller is the man next year and if so, he could use as much as he can get.

I have been going back and forth on this. It wouldn't hurt for the team other than the seniors to have a couple light practices. Mainly QBs and WRs.

The other part of me just says its not worth it so why bother.

    Re: Practice Question

I get practice is valuable, so here's a question then:

Do you practice for next year? What I mean is, do you only practice those players that will be back next year (no seniors) and start the prep for next years team?

If the answer to that is yes, then great! Practice is important and I'm all for it. If the answer is no, then I still ask why? Why keep practicing for this year and practice the seniors that won't be on the team next year?

    Practice vs Weight Room

I know the common mantra is how good the extra bowl practice is for developing young players. However, with this team- are we better served spending that bowl practice time in the weight room over the next month?

IMO player physical development is more important that practice reps.

Yes, obviously one would think they would only use practice the returners, pretty much like what spring practice would be like. Or maybe practice the returning offense against the full defense including seniors and vice verse. If I recall we only get about three weeks of practice in the spring so 7 practices would be an extra half of spring practice so to speak.

Strength and conditioning takes place all the time, even in the off season.

As Dan Hawkins reminded us, this isn't intramurals. The players are on yearlong strength and conditioning programs whether there is formal practice or not.

I would assume that they would focus on the returning players. It would be huge for the returning players to have the seniors there just to help them out and watch the returning players and let them know what they can do better ect.

This is exactly my point. If we do still have the ability to practice the next couple of weeks CPR and company needs to to take advantage of it. Focus on the returners and have the seniors there to offer there input, much like having extra assistant coaches.

    Re: Practice Question

This is a bye week so practice is allowed. I would say getting Tiller out there with the receivers that are coming back next year would be a really good idea. Any time they are allowed to be in full pads working on their timing and pass routes is good.

Another good thing to do to get ready for next year would be to have one full week of practice with #72 teaching him not to jump the snap. He is very good player just needs to wait for the ball to be snapped.
