Hawaii football to potentially join MWC

Heard this during the Boise State game, so looked it up. There's no deal yet, but potentially only Hawaii football will join the MWC while the other sports join the closer California-based Big West Conference. The move supposedly would push TCU closer to joining the Big East.

Sorry if this has already been posted, but I didn't see anything after a quick scan.

This is most likely a reactive move to TCU going to the big east, which some are saying is pretty much a done deal.

That would be a bad deal for the MWC. Hawaii doesn't offer anything except an inflated travel budget.

MWC doesnt have many options to replace TCU with... and if its only football thats a lot easier on the budget than if it were all sports.

MWC is the new WAC. Boise, Fresno, Nevada, Hawaii coming in. TCU, Utah, BYU leaving.

Don't confuse hope for a plan.

I don't understand this thought process (I hear it all the time). They're 7-3 this year with losses to Boise, Colorado at Colorado and USC. They're likely to finish 9-3 this year, probably no worse than 8-4, finishing second in the conference to Boise State (they own a tie breaker with Nevada as they won that game). They also have likely 2 NFL receivers on their team. Where does the idea that they have nothing to offer come from?

If I didn't care about anything but party road trips, the mwc would be a darn fun conference to be in.

I don't do signatures. Blondes, brunettes, and red heads are a different story.

Re: Hawaii football to potentially join MWC

I believe a while back Hawaii was actually in the MWC, before joining the WAC.

I think the budget was the whole point of the football only move. These schools only have to pay for one trip to Honolulu every other year. The other sports will only come from California, which isn't too terrible of a flight.
