ESPN's Ladder 119 (College Football Team Rankings)

ESPN is ranking the top programs of the last decade. Starting at the bottom with #119 (Congrats to Buffalo, at least if you suck you are good at it) and working their way up to #1. Here is the link:

    ESPN - Ladder 119: Nos. 101-119 - College Football

So a few questions. Where do you think Iowa State will fall (See Poll) and who do you think will be #1?

Baylor is the worst Big 12 team on the list, coming in at #101 and our season opening opponent, Kent State, clocks in at #109.

I am going to put my vote in for the somewhere between 40-59, but in that range being 55-59. I also think I am being fairly optimistic, but hey, I think I should be allowed a little optimism here and there. I am thinking we should definitely make the 60-79 range though. Our overall record for the last decade is 52-67 (.437 Win %) and we a 2-3 record in bowl games during that time frame. Would be nice if we could at least have been .500 during the 2-10 and 1-10 seasons.

I'll phone in #1 as USC.

Re: ESPN's Ladder 119 (College Football Team Rankings)

My guess is we'll be in tomorrows edition (76-100). It's been a general consensus that we'll finish last in the Big 12 North with maybe 1 conference win by most pre-season magazines and analysts. A 76 to 100 ranking would be consistent with what the "experts" are saying.

    Number 1? Maybe Alabama
    Iowa State? In the 90s

Re: ESPN's Ladder 119 (College Football Team Rankings)

USC definitely at #1, with Florida State being in the top 5, even with recent years... have to go back to 1997, and FSU was always at the top...was it 2002 or 2003 that FSU lost it's string of 10 win seasons or something like that... USC over the last 5 years for sure, but before Carroll? Ohio St has been to a couple title games, 1-1, same with Miami, and LSU will be in contention. How about a program that is always a tough out, always is around 10 wins, but just doesn't seem to be getting to enough of the BCS bowls, and they have a national title game appearance = Virginia Tech!

I'm extremely afraid of where they'll put Iowa, knowing that they're going to give Kirk a free pass on the last two years... who knows...

Alabama? I'm taking that as pure sarcasm...

ISU around 80 - there's quite a few schools that would take 5 bowl appearances in a row, but that overall winning % for the last 10 years won't help...

USC, it seems like they grow and harvest Heisman candidates over there, and have procured about as many.

I voted 40-49, but only because I thought this was a vote for the overall athletic program, not just football.

The ESPN rankings reflect the last 10 years however. Alabama had some struggles over the last ten years including some NCAA sanctions.

Ahh, I thought it was all time or within the the modern day era. When I read decade, I thought century. lol.

Yeah, in that case, nobody will be yelling Roll Tide for this event.

I wanna change my vote, I did not read that it was in the last decade. I voted 80-100 because I thought it was this year, I say we are ranked 60 for the last decade.

I misread that also. I would say that we should be ranked in the 67 vicinity. Five bowls are neat, until you look at where they fall in the Big 12 pecking order.

Wait Brian, I just read your ranking. Surely these glory years should have gotten us in the top 55. Damn Wayne Morgan.

USC #1, OSU #2, Florida in the top 5.

ISU will be around 69; they will put Iowa in the 11-20 range.

Re: ESPN's Ladder 119 (College Football Team Rankings)

A decade is a long time in college sports. ISU and Iowa have had some really crappy years in there along with some good ones. We should finish above KU but probably below the rest of the Big 12 teams that are left although not terribly far behind some of them. Our "Crap the Bed" seasons might take away quite a bit from the five bowl games.

I was optimistic and thought we might sneak into the top 60.

    I think the top 5 will be;

    Miami
    Florida State
    Ohio State
    USC
    Oklahoma

    But not in that order.
