Doomsday, Armageddon, End Of days, your thoughts?

Was watching the news over lunch. While Im not a big supporter of the media, I do believe some things they report aren't skewed. In the past 10 years or so we have seen alot of big changes. Some of these things have happened over the past century or so, but in spurts not within a few years as of recent. I have noticed, more wars, more genocide, more murder, more rapings, more abductions, more unrest between cultures; races; income levels, freakish weather all over the world, disasters, more distrust amongst neighbors, less giving and caring to those in need. I just dont get why? Does anyone have an idea why this is increasing? Is it a population explosion? Are we like caged rats? Feel free to theorize.

I think the estimate for overall deaths in WWII was 50,000,000. That kind of statistic would have me concerned for the end of days in 1946.

As to a theory. Real time reporting, worldwide. Some of these things were never written down, but a good steady reading through history will find that the human race has a definite pattern going.

My question to you Bost is, is more bad stuff happening or are we just hearing about it more? Never before have we had media coverage like now. I don't know which is right, but something to think about.

Re: Doomsday, Armageddon, End Of days, your thoughts?

In the past, we were not aware of many of the things that have happend all over the world. Lets take kidnappings, we used to never hear about that because the media was not in our face all the time. Now the bad people know that if they want their cause to be heard, all they have to do is one simple tasks and the world will be talking about them.

It is more a case of information overload than the end of the world.

Could very well be. I wish I had more facts if there has in fact been an increase in this stuff statistically. I just dont remember hearing as much growing up. I guess the news in more entertainment now.

From a geologist's perspective, the world will go on, but we as civilization will just become part of the fossil record for future visiting aliens to discover. Someday they will dig up H2 Hummers and McDonald's golden arches in a sandstone deposit.

Seriously though, throughout history, many individuals had these thoughts when the world seemed like chaos around them.... the deaths during WWI and WWII, us and Soviets nearly throwing down during the cuban missle crisis, the climate cooling after tambora and krakatoa blew their stacks, the plague, the little ice age a few hundred years ago... somehow civilization has persisted...

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.

Doomsday killed Superman. So, we're pretty much screwed if he ever arrives.

Re: Doomsday, Armageddon, End Of days, your thoughts?

I think it's just a case of more news channels. When I was young there were 4 news sources(ABC,CBS,NBC, and the paper) and they did 1 hour per night. By junior high there was CNN. Now there is about 7 full time news channels along with the internet.

We have also became a nation of cry babies with no back bone but that's a whole different topic.
