    BLUM: Cyclone defined

As always, good stuff from Brent Blum who focuses on the career of Austen Arnaud in this week's column.

He is what I hope my son will become. A leader with high character, competitive edge, and humility. I will pay honor to #4 as he walks out for the coin toss but the honor has been watching him play for us, the Cyclone Nation. People can be critical but Austen never ducked that criticism and always remained positive. What more can you ask for? Remember the weeks leading into the Texas Game? That game alone should be the foundation of his legacy!

That was the best article I've seen on here. I feel so bad for Austen, I wanted to see him lead us to victory against Missouri and another bowl game. I loved that basketball story!

Austen is one of my all time favorite Cyclones, and that's not a phrase that I toss around very often.

    Re: BLUM: Cyclone defined

Brent captures it perfectly. AA has been a great person, a great Cyclone, and a pillar for the program throughout a lot of change. But reading through those memorable moments in his career he seems to parallel the greater Cyclone football program: with success and a big next step within grasp, we constantly come up just a little short.

And that is what makes this ending so tough to see. It is just bitterly ironic that AA will have to end his playing career one game early, leaving the team just 1 win short of a bowl game. For everything he has done, and everything he has been through, nobody on this team deserves to have that one last shot at glory more than AA. It would just seem fitting after everything he has gone through for him to have one last shot at that crunch time drive, and for that final pass to finally find the target and finish the deal. For all he has done to help build the foundation for the new CPR era, he has earned the opportunity to be out there one last time, winning one last big game to help us turn the corner.

Thanks for everything, Austen. Now let's go out there and win this one for a hometown favorite and a true Cyclone!

    Re: BLUM: Cyclone defined

I’ve often pondered what it means to be an Iowa State Cyclone. There probably isn’t an actual definition, but I think it’s best described by the man whose name is on the stadium.
I would have said that "Cyclone" is epitomized by the man with "Arnaud" on the back of his uniform.

What say, folks? CAA succeeds CPR are as coach of the Cyclones, circa 2030?

    Re: BLUM: Cyclone defined

I may very well cry when Austen is announced on Saturday. No one on that team gave more than he did for ISU.

I didn't always agree with his "on the field" decisions, but he tried as hard as he could.

    Re: BLUM: Cyclone defined

I didn't think i'd miss him at qb until he couldn't play. I have a feeling we'll see him on the sideline again someday. He should be remembered as the player that laid the foundation for the sucess to come in the future. He is the ronnie harris of cyclone fb.
