    Am I the only one...

that thinks CU would have beat anyone in the country last week at home? Alabama, OU, Nebraska, you name it....I just dont think on that day, CU was gonna lose at home. I may be wrong, but they had the emotional edge. I see the same thing happening this week in Ames. I honestly do not see us losing for the same reasons. CPR is behind the scenes with these guys and the motivation factor will be HUGE on Saturday. I also believe that is another reason we need to pack the Jack and be loud and proud.

CU is a bad team and is in turmoil. No way we should have lost.

Bingo. We couldn't have caught CU at a worse time.

I get what you're saying, but I think it was more of a mix of ISU not playing well and catching CU at a bad time. I still think the turning point of that game was when we were driving, got down to about the CU 30 yard line and had 3 false start penalties in a row on what was originally a 3rd and 3(?) forcing us to punt. We never really moved the ball after that series.

Emotions don't win football games. Executing does. Emotions don't all of the sudden make you bigger, faster, stronger, etc. We went into Boulder and didn't execute worth a damn. They did. If emotions win football games, we should stomp Missouri this weekend. If emotions win football games, we shouldn't have choked away conference title game chances in 04 and 05.

I don't think that at all but I do think the Iowa State team that played CU could lose to anyone in the country.

I do think that Colorado played better than they probably have all season, but that doesn't mean they would have beaten everybody.

I think it is a much different game if Hawkins was still their coach. Not because of Hawkins directly, but because firing Hawkins gave the players confidence that they otherwise wouldn't have had.

We still didn't play very well, but I suspect this was more a case of Colorado playing up to their ability for the whole game, rather than us playing terrible.

Re: Am I the only one...

I think that it is the exact opposite. I think that ISU would have lost to ALMOST anyone last week. We played our worst game of the season against one of the worst teams that we have played.

Yes CU had an emotional advantage with all of the turmoil but that is no exuse to get beat by a lesser team.

This is the worst loss of the season for me by far and the worst loss of the CPR era. Probably even worse than the L's to UNI, Toledo and Kent State that Chiz had.

I am not turning on the team or the staff because I think that this could actually lead to a very strong performance this weekend and maybe the team uses AA's injury as a "win one for the Gipper" moment.

I just had a really hard time swallowing this one.

“It’s beyond pride. It’s a restored trust. There’s a confidence again, a passion that teeters on swagger. More than anything, (Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads) has restored the Iowa State “it” factor, the steadfast belief that it is great to be a Cyclone...the man’s enthusiasm is genuine to the core...”

I agree that we had opportunities to take back momentum and quell their emotional energy, but we failed to make those plays and allowed them to sustain that energy for the entire game. The kickoff return in the first half after we took the lead and the fumbled punt return after the half were critical moments where we let them sustain their emotions.

Re: Am I the only one...

I don't think CU is a great team but I agree many people underestimate just how talented CU is, they have higher recruited players than we have nearly across the board. That doesn't mean everything but it shows just how poorly this team performed under Hawkins. I think they showed a lot more speed and explosiveness at the skill positions than we have. I also think its apparent the CU offense has played much better since Hawkins has been under center. A very tough non conference schedule and a lame duck coach made the CU game look like we had an advantage but we didn't, face it this team has more talent that we do. I don't buy the "we just didn't show up" stance, thats an excuse for getting whooped. Other than the KU game this team lost to Cal, Mizzou, Baylor , Tech and OU. Pretty similar to us, so if CU is supposedly so awful then what does that make us?
