    Cory Johnson & Valpo

Looks like they run their offense through former Cyclone Cory Johnson.

Too bad KU is starting to taste blood.

I really think Cory could have done well here, but McD didn't know how to use his talent.

Yeah, pretty easy to put blame on the old coach for everything.

6'5 Power Forwards with limited athletic ability struggle in the Big 12. Great kid, great ball player, tough spot to be in

I think you could replace the name Cory with "every player here during his tenure" and that would be a better description of Greg "The Torpedo's" time here.

    Re: Cory Johnson & Valpo

In his freshmen year, Cory was essentially behind Rashon Clark and Wes Johnson, then the next year Brackins came in and took the 4 spot which moved Wes to the 3, leaving Cory still without a spot on the court. If Wes Johnson said he was going to transfer sooner, I would think Cory would have stayed as he would have moved in to the 3 spot.

    Re: Cory Johnson & Valpo

Is it sad that it took me a second or two to remember who he was?? So many players that went in and out of this program, sometimes it's hard to keep track.

So we know know how Dykstra is doing with SDSU (even though he didn't make it here)
We know how Cory is doing now...

Any other updates on some previous players?? Should almost have a weekly "Where Are They Now" for people to catch up on past Cyclones.

    Re: Cory Johnson & Valpo

This is a bit off topic...

I was listening to 1620 The Zone in Omaha last week and they had an interview with McDermott. They asked him point blank why he thought he didn't succeed at ISU and his comment was something along the lines of: "I started to recruit athletes instead of skill players...I felt like most of the guys were good players, but couldn't understand the system well enough to run it." So, essentially he said the players HE recruited were too dumb for HIS system.

The best part was when they asked him about his upcoming recruiting class and he said something like "I would love to have guys like Greg Coleman..."and proceeded to name about 10 guys from UNI without mentioning 1 guy that played for him at ISU.

I think he's a nice guy and I have normally been supportive of him at Creighton, but he came off like an arrogant jerk in that interview.

Anyone else hear it and get the same vibe?

Three if you count Wesley, and four if you count Mike Taylor (and he did get at least a sniff).

Of course it's easy to blame him. He brought these guys in (sort of), and he couldn't get a team put together. Ames might be tough to recruit to, but it sure isn't impossible.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

The Creighton guys probably know how to handle those 1000 plays better.

Mike Taylor actually played 15 min a game last year for the Clippers. Played in 51 games and started 5. Probably more than Craig will get this year given Craig is in a poor situation with so many players at his position.

    Epic fail.

    Yep..it is pretty easy.

McD was one of the worst Big 12 coaches..ever.

    A program wrecker.

    Re: Cory Johnson & Valpo

I was able to go to KU vs. Valpo game. Valpo played really well in first half but KU put together a nice run in the end of first and 2nd half.

Cory looked really good. He was playing PF for the most part, but he was def undersized compared to Morris brothers. He knew how to use his body to score though. It would been nice to have his size and craftyness on Iowa State roster right now.
