    BB games on TV

Why are so few games on regular TV? I can understand playing some no name team on Wed night not big on WOI, but a Sunday game when WOI is running infomercials or some low rent show. No Drake on TV. No Creighton game on TV on another Sunday. With so many TV options in Des Moines now you would think they could find a place for ISU BB games. Medicacom is fine but their viewership keeps getting lower and lower and for many it isnt even an option. Its too bad they couldnt run more games on 5.2, they could even run the Meidiacom games there to get viewership up.

Are you asking why so few stations are members of the CTN, or why CTN carries so few games?

IIR CTN gave the rights to most of the early season games to Mediacom....

The Drake game is on ESPN full court/ESPN3.com. I know thats probably not what you're looking for but it's something. The Creighton game not on TV is really dumb. I wouldn't be shocked if mediacom announced they were carrying this game.

I would. Neither team has broadcast rights for it.

Why does CTN carry so few games? I know Mediacom pays ISU a lot of money but it seems games being on Medicom miss such a large part of the fan base. When WOI has 5.2 you would think that would be a better place for the games than Medicom.

Sorry if this is an ignorant question but does channel 5 in D.M. carry the CTN and Big 12 network games? Thanks.

It's technically part of the Global Sports Hy-Vee Challenge, so the tournament operator(s) have control over television. With ISU-Creighton being the biggest game of this event, and at a neutral site, it's not shocking that they would pass on TV in an attempt to boost ticket sales.

Besides that, many folks have already lamented about ISU being on TV up against the NFL. It would be the same situation, just a week later.

The blame is shared by losing basketball and by Learfield.

When ISU switched to Learfield a few years ago, it brought an end to the ESPN+ tie-in that CTN had for many years. Since CTN then became an independent (for lack of a better term), the number of CTN games was cut in half almost immediately. Mediacom stepped in to pick up the other half.

Additionally, since ISU has had some lean years, it has been passed over by national (ESPN) and regional (Big 12) TV during their selections. As a result, CTN has had to use its "allotment" to fill in the gaps in conference games, which in turn moved Mediacom's picks up a step, which in turn led to several low-end games not being televised at all.

Games aren't televised as a public service. They're televised to make money. CTN does half the games it used to because it just can't sell the commercials it used to.

    Re: BB games on TV

from looking at the schedule CTN must have exclusive rights
for games not picked up after the first of the year and
Mediacom prior. If it truly was a pecking order CTN would be
    carrying the Drake game.

This is also the reason that fewer local stations belong to the CTN than, say, ten years ago or so. KIMT (Mason City) used to pick up CTN games, then it picked up fewer as ad money and sponsor money dried up. It has not carried any games in about 5 years.
