    If we win...Sun Bowl

Of all the options out there for bowls that will not be filled by conference tie-ins, the Sun Bowl looks like the best option. Doesn't look like the Pac 10 will fill this spot since they will probably be getting 2 in the BCS. Of course, we need a big upset of Mizzou for this to happen, but we can always dream. I would definitely attend this New Years Eve bowl.

We probably won't make a Big XII bowl, so we will be stuck to a bowl slot from another conference that can't fill all its slots...hence, the Sun Bowl.

    Re: If we win...Sun Bowl

It blows my mind that I forgot the Sun Bowl still exists of course, everything is overshadowed by the Meineke Brake-Pad Pizza-Steakhouse Bowl.

And to think, Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl seemed like a freakish name.

The Sun Bowl is tied w/ Orange & Sugar as second-longest running bowl behind the Rose Bowl. It isn't so prominent in 34-bowl era, or whatever it is, but at least it has some history.

And ISU also played it in '71.

Of course, finding a way to beat Missouri on Saturday matters more than any of that stuff right now.

I'm pretty sure all bowl payouts go to the conference and then the total is evenly split evenly across the teams in the conference. I know for sure that all the big12 affiliate bowls work that way, and I'm pretty sure that this is how it works for non big12 tie-in bowls.

anyway, any bowl will be awesome, regardless of payout, imho

I'm pretty sure schools keep some to pay for expenditures up front and some is also sent to the conference.

Unless your school is in a BCS bowl or one of the big name non-BCS bowls, your school pretty much takes the vast majority of the money for travel expenses.
For example, last year, the BCS bowls paid 17 million each. After that, the next highest was 4.25 million for the Capital One bowl. There's a few more that pay 2ish-3ish million, the rest of the middle to lower bowls only pay around 1 million, which most goes to the team for traveling. Whatever is left goes to the conference.

    Re: If we win...Sun Bowl

How did the Sun Bowl become an option?
This year it's the ACC against the Pac-10.
And with Stanford at 9-1 (Probably BCS) and Arizona currently 7-3
    not to mention
Florida State 7-3 Maryland 7-3 North Carolina State 7-3 ...where do we fit in?

Pac10 not being able to fill their allotment, especially if both Stanford and Oregon are in a BCS bowl.
