Is his contract up or close?

Even so, that has to rank in the top 5 of dumbest posts ever (don't take it personally).

CPR should be allowed to be the coach here as long as he wants. Case closed.

Re: Does Rhoads still get an extension?

Yes. I would give Rhoads an extension with a modest raise and bonuses for performance. Just as I advocated before. The assistants as well. I would probably keep the original terms but just add on another 2-3 years with additional compensation. Higher compensation would require a higher buyout if Rhoads would choose to leave.

But I think it is pretty stupid to be talking of salaries in the $2+ million range at this point.

Here is a link to what they were when he first came.

It might be pretty stupid to talk about $2 million salary, but that's exactly what Turner Gill is making to suck in year 1 with some players that went to the Orange Bowl. I think that the going rate (it'll be interesting to see what Minnesota and Colorado have to pay) is going to be close to 2 million and I really think we need to be close to the going rate for Rhoads.

He is the lowest paid coach in the conference by a LONG shot.

Re: Does Rhoads still get an extension?

Yes he gets an extension. This may however postpone the statue of him that I had planned on putting in my front yard.

Just remember, this is only the first time that we've lost a game that he should have won under Rhoads. We've lost a couple that I would consider toss-ups, but never one that I was going into it thinking a definite win. Looking at our previous coaches, some of them didn't get through the first game before they lost one they shouldn't have.

Re: Does Rhoads still get an extension?

Lets see if this can be evaluated professionally as they will do it.

For this discussion, lets assume the season is over and we did lose the last game.

The coach will sit then down with his supervisor after the season concludes, do an evaluation and the get to the question of compensation.

Lets say they go to lunch. Lets listen in....

CPR: I am proud to be at ISU as the head football coach. However, in all fairness, to be competitive and successful in the future, my staff needs raises to recognize the achievements they have made and to keep our compensation competitive. I also believe I have warranted an raise to be somewhat competitive to the market, and I would like an extension so the incoming recruits know I am under contract for at least 3-4 years of their time here.

JP: (Being a professional administrator, with an accounting background). Sir, I appreciate all you have done for ISU. However, funding is tight, can you give me some comparable for evaluation and justification of the raises and extensions you are requesting. Once I have that information I will need some time to review and make a final decision on your requests..

PR: Not a problem, lets see, the previous coach that fans were turning on, had a record of 5-19, got a raise and a two year extension. I have a record of 12-13, have restored trust in the program, have a staff who wants to be here, and I just need to be treated equitably and fairly. Oh yeah, do not forget about the bowl win and TX.

JP: Your checks and revised contract can be picked up from my administrative assistant after 3:30.

Yes, CPR is the right guy for the job. He is what ISU needs for the long term.

There is no bigger CPR fan then myself, but statements like this are premature. Some said the same about McCarney and they were wrong too.

Re: Does Rhoads still get an extension?

We are starting a QB and a running back that were recruited two coaches ago. We still haven't seen what ISU can do with CPR recruits ('cept Shontrelle)...'nuff said? Let it play.
