    MBB lineups now

Now that MT is officially outtie, I think we can look at the potential lineups - I think it goes without saying that Garrett and Staiger will start at the guard spots. I thought that it might have been Clark and WJ at the 3 and 4 before... but I don't know if they can do that this year now. I think WJ might have to start at the 3 just to provide some sort of experienced perimeter scoring punch. I also think Brackins might now end up starting since I think he's more skilled offensivly than Thompson.

Without Taylor I think the team really needs to have as many scorers on the floor as possible - I mean we were flat out the worst offensive team statistically in the Big 12 last year. Regardless it's going to be interesting to see how the team rebounds and plays from here.

    I really hope it's a

    PG - Garrett
    SG - Staiger
    SF - W. Johnson
    PF - Brackins/Thompson
    C - Jiri

lineup. Great size and I think that can be one advantage.

I think with Taylor gone, it solidifies Clark's role as a starter.

I think if our guard play is decent, thats gonna be a tough team when they come together. I'm pumped for Staiger!!

mpc4isu7-I think your second lineup is a realistic possibility. Coach has often said that Wes is playing out of position at the forward spot.

    Re: MBB lineups now

    Garrett / Brister
    Staiger / Boozer
    W. Johnson / Clark
    Brackins / Vette / C. Johnson
    Hubalek / Thompson

I would guess that the coaching staff is really working hard on Clark's ball handling skills. Having a guy with experience help get the ball up the floor would be a huge help when breaking in these freshmen. Plus it may be the best way for Clark to see significant playing time.

Also, will Vette redshirt. If Cory Johnson is doing as well as advertised in the summer leagues could he be a main component until Brackins can get going?

Wes was playing out of position at the 'power' forward spot. He's better suited to be a 3 or small forward but Wes is definitely not a shooting guard.

I do agree that wes is really a 3 but he played out of postion last year and that worked out fine

    Re: MBB lineups now

Why should ISU just let Clark have a starting spot just becuase he's had one last year? We need to get Wes in the 3 spot and let him flourish!! We are going to need score, and Clark brings about zero scoring ability besides a tip dunk. He can't even hold onto the ball long enough to dribble and dunk it sometimes. I don't see Clark starting this year, but he can still be a team leader. If he is as big of a leader as we think he is, he will be fine coming off the bench. I just think we are going to see this lineup.

    Re: MBB lineups now

It's sweet that we're going to have such a tall team on the court overall... but knowing how hard of a time we had bringing the ball up court against a full court press from Missouri last year with two speedy Juco guards... I'm not thrilled about watching us play them again next year.Anybody who went to the CCL... is there anybody on our team besides Diante who has speed dribbling the ball?I didn't hear anything about Staiger being a very fast ball handler... how quick are boozer and Brister bringing the ball up court?

    Re: MBB lineups now

You need experience out on the floor, especially with Taylor gone. Clark will start. Wouldn't be surprised to see Wesley at the 2 every once in a while, but not consistently. This definitely puts the kabosh on a three guard line up.

    D. Garrett
    W. Johnson
    R. Clark
    A. Thompson
    J. Hubalek

I really like that lineup. With Lucca, Craig, and C. Johnson off the bench I see no reason why we won't make a push for the tourny. Yes we will be young in the back court, but if these guys play to there hype/potential we will not be an easy out for any team.

Agreed... I didn't see Wes take many people from perimeter to the hoop. He can shoot over anybody and fly in on rebounds... but I didn't see the shooting guard in him. But hey... I would LOVE to be proven wrong and see him flourish if put in the situation. If he can do that... he'll be NBA no questions asked. The only thing I see keeping him from NBA is ball handling at this point.

Don't count out Bryan Petersen playing a lot of minutes at the point.

From GMac interview of July 10. "Bryan has the upper had early because he's got two years of college basketball experience. He played at a system at Kirkwood very similar to how we play and he's been a winner the last two years there."

Good point... I mentioned him in a different post... forgot him in this one. So add him to my question...

Is Brister, Booze, or Peterson quick enough with the ball to bring it up against big 12 teams pressing us? It sounds like Diante is... but I don't see him playing 40 mins a game.
