    Jake Anderson

I think I've said this before, but Ricardo Patton is an idiot. I absolutely love this kid.

He was given the assignment of guarding the #1 scoring option, a kid who averaged 20 pts per game last year, and Jake locked him down in the first half...zero points.

In the second half, Jake did a great job of finishing, and had a couple of beautiful outlet passes to lead the break (one especially to Ejim). He also showed a nice stroke when he pulled it up, and is a very good rebounder.

He is a tough, smart basketball player and has a great attitude. In the post game, he was asked about how he was able to play such great D in the first half. He gave all the credit to the coaches, for preparing the team, and to Chris Allen. He said Allen is "very hard to guard" in practice and that deserves the credit.

What the hell did Patton not see is this kid??? I wish we had him for more than 1 year.

    My new favorite Cyclone.

Been a long time since we have had a true all around basketball player like Jake.

Big, physical and can finish at the rim.

Provides hustle plays and fast breaks.

    Re: Jake Anderson

Patton runs a specific "system" and if a player doesn't "fit", then he's run off by the coach. Patton does OK as a tactician, but is very inflexible about the type of player he's willing to work with. I think NIU will see this combo generally does not work out in the long run as Patton won't be able to recruit the same type of players as he did to Colorado for several years.

I'm a huge Jake Anderson fan, and he's my favorite current cyclone. Love his all out hustle for the ball, great defense and an ability to get the ball to the basket that we haven't seen in awhile at ISU.

    Re: Jake Anderson

Anderson reminds me a lot of a guy like Kantrail Horton or a JT Tiller from Mizzou. He's not as good of a shooter as Horton and not as good of a defender as Tiller, but he possesses the intangibles and appears to be a real leader out there. He's going to be a vital part of this year's team and I'm glad we have him.

    Re: Jake Anderson

Loved seeing him having a big night tonight. He will always have a soft spot in my heart since him and Jordan Railey spent about 5 minutes hanging out with my son at fan fest. My son is only 4 and doesn't remember which of the players it was that he talked to but he still talks about it at least once a week. Both guys were just great guys and the fact they spent that much time with my son and asked him about preschool etc. means we will cheer a little louder for them during games.

+1 here. From just one game, I whole-heartedly agree with these comparisons. We haven't seen a player with these kinds of intangibles in a long time, which is why I don't understand Patton's deal.

I understand he has his own "system", but I would venture to guess Jake could fit in with any system a coach can run out there.

    Re: Jake Anderson

He has the savvy and know how to get around a defender and get an easy layup without getting a charge. He must've snuck his way past the defender three times tonight for easy layups.

How did we get him to play this year and not have to take a year off? Legit question.

He already had graduated, so he can play right away. This is his last year of eligibility left.
