    Marcus Dupree

I'm sure many of you saw "The Best that Never Was" on ESPN. I'm trying to find Duprees stats vs. ISU in '82. John "The Land Shark" Arnaud was a senior that year and I'm wondering what happened in this game? Anybody see this game?

I was blown away by Dupree's highlight reel but bummed out that they showed highlights vs. NU, KSU, CU, MU and not us. Maybe we pwned him

Yep it was an excellent watch. We talked about it a little bit in another thread:

He didn't start against us. We were the last game before his first start where he blew up against Texas. OU won 13-3 without seeing much of him.

I've enjoyed all of the ones I've seen aside from Marion Jones. What a waste.

I was glued to the TV for this. Really enjoyed watching it. 6'3 225 lb running back that runs a 4.3 is unheard of NOW let alone 30 years ago

Imagine what the message boards would have been like back in the early '80's during the Dupree vanishing saga? CF may have exploded.

The dude was just unbelievable; his high school highlight reel was nuts. It was wild to hear the UT and OU coaches talk about how he was the best they'd ever seen. It was surprising to me that Switzer would issue the kid the kind of ultimatum he did. It was oubvious he wasn't really emotionally equiped to deal with being the star he was becoming. I think these days he would get more emotional help and hopefully get steered away from guys like his "Reverend Agent".

I found it really sad. So many people wanted to use the guy including his own mother!

    Re: Marcus Dupree

The day he played in Ames one of our assistant coaches did me a great favor and gave my dad a bench pass. It was his one and only time to see a game from the sideline. On one play Dupree was carrying the ball toward our sideline and wound up plowing my dad into the turf as he came out of bounds. My dad was ok, just banged up a bit, and Dupree made sure to check that he was ok before heading back to the huddle. But he was big and fast, that is for sure.

Totally agree. A sympathetic puff piece for a completely unsympathetic character. In terms of tone deafness it reminded me of Mr. Burns entry into the Springfield Film Festival.

The Dupree doc was so good. My favorite part was watching him get choked up talking about how proud he was of his time with the Rams. The guy is comfortable of what he accomplished regardless of what others think he should have done.

If anyone is willing to splurge $5 million my way for 5 years, I will demonstrate the opposite of Mr. Dupree and how to take care of money.

He trusted the wrong people. When you come from nothing, you don't know how people usually handle these things. He thought he was doing what he was supposed to and what was smart.
That Rev. guy needs a kick in the pills and anybody else who takes advantage of somebody like that.

The sad part is that there were no right people in his life and he had no idea what to do.
