Missouri picked by media to finish 1st in North

    www.kansascity.com | 07/19/2007 | Missouri picked to win Big 12 North

I am quite suprised by this one. I thought it would be NU for sure.We got picked 6th in the north. Remember what we did last time we were picked 6th preseason in the north.

I do and to be honest, part of me would kinda like to forget about it.

That type of season this year would be awesome - minus the choke job at the end.

Why would you be surprised? They will not miss Brad Smith. It still boggles my mind that during the '05 season we shut Smith down... totally... and put him out of the game (yet we still managed to lose) and then he wrapped up about 450 yds of offense BY HIMSELF in a total dismantling of Nebraska.

I believe we will beat Mizzou though. No real logic behind it. I just think we will.

That's hard to disagree with being Brad Smith wasn't even on the team last year being he had already graduated.

Chase Daniels is a pretty doggone good guarterback.

Mizzou didn't really miss Smith all that much last year that's for sure. My point is, after Seneca left... we REALLY missed him. With Daniel's in his second year at the helm and a much improved team overall, it shouldn't be a surprise that Mizzou is picked to win the north.

However, I also think the media isn't buying into the hype over in Lincoln. They will probably lose 4 or 5 games this season.

Hah, this is laughable. Mizzou will finish second at the highest. NU is a lot better team and believes they can win. Mizzou lost to ISU last year, that is how bad they perform towards the end of the season. They always fold every year. Kinda sounds farmililiar.

No a typical Mizzou football season would consist of 8 or 9 losses. As somebody who grew up rooting for Mizzou let me tell you most of us couldn't wait until basketball season, well at least when Norm Stewart was running the show.

The only way Nebraska loses is if Sam Keller is injured in the USC game. Chase Daniel is a poor man's Eric Crouch.

Gary Pinkel will find a way to lose at least 5 games, he always does.

I would never compare daniel to crouch. Crouch was a great scrambler too. Daniel stands back there like a tree. Watch him sometime, they guy does not move a step. He has the weirdest stance I have ever seen.

Re: Missouri picked by media to finish 1st in North

If you ignore the Pinkel factor, I can see where the media's coming from. Mizzou's returning nearly their entire offense. They've got two four-year starters coming back on the line and several more players who got at least one start last year. Daniel's back, and pocket passer or not, he's still a good QB. They return 5 RB's including a 1000-yard rusher, and 4 good WR's. They've got some holes on defense at LB and S, but they've got a lot of experience. Nebraska's going to have to replace Zac Taylor, and learning the WCO is a tough task for any QB, especially for young QB's without experience.

IMO, the other reason is the schedule. Nebraska's got to go to Wake Forest and host USC, Mizzou has Illinois and Ole Miss. Slight difference in difficulty. In the conference, Mizzou's got Nebraska, A&M, and Tech at home, with OU the biggest road test. Nebraska has A&M and OSU at home but plays in Austin.

Mizzou could be dangerous...IF you ignore the Pinkel factor.

We were saying a lot of that about ourselves last year... Look how that turned out
