ISU's opponents record tops in the country

"Iowa State's opponents are a combined 55-29, the best mark of any team in the country." Thanks to ESPN's Ubben for pointing this out.

We all knew ISU had the toughest schedule but this stat is still staggering.

We are also the highest rated team without a winning record in the Rivals 120 (#45).

Iowa state is methodically moving up boards such as this. We may one day get some respect with CPR at the helm.

And Texas is stinking it up, or it would look even better.

On one TV broadcast right after the initial BCS rankings came out, there was a graphic that showed ISU had 7 of the top 25 BCS schools on its schedule, with next closest being 5 schools. UT is now out of top 25 BCS, but if we can get the win tomorrow, a very impresssive accomplishment to get 6 wins against the toughest schedule in the country.

Sadly, if we keep Iowa on the schedule, with the new conference and playing all the south teams, our schedule will be hard every year.

Re: ISU's opponents record tops in the country

We'll have the #1 SOS in Sagarin almost every season going forward unless Iowa starts to suck.

The Pac Ten has dominated his SOS ranking since they went to nine game round robin. Right now our SOS is #6 with him but 1-5 are all Pac Ten.

Starting next year it will be the Big 12 in that position with SOS and I don't think anyone else has a built in out of conference game as tough as ours (Iowa) so most years I think we will be #1 in Sagarin SOS.

All this certainly will help the Big 12 with the 1/3 of the BCS that is computer models. We are currently 27th in Sagarin's component that is used by the BCS that doesn't count margin of victory, we'd likely be near the top ten if we had pulled out Nebraska and KSU.

I greatly prefer the computer rankings, no human poll ever gives enough consideration to strength of schedule and they are all hypnotized by the school's name on the jersey. The Matt Perraults of the rage against them that we don't know the forumula and the formulas are as biased as voters, the truth is EVERY computer formula is more honorable than the AP and Coaches poll, none of the computer formulas have "add 10 points for being named Notre Dame, add 8 points for being USC, add 9 points for being Nebraska". That's what the idiotic coaches and AP do every week.

NIU has nine votes and we have zero. In Sagarin we are 45 and they are 54. One of those is completely stupid and one of them is about perfect. Human polls blow. The same nine Chicago market hacks were voting for Northwestern early when they didn't deserve it and they switched their homer vote to NIU when NIU was clearly better. No computer poll formula includes "add 10 points because this team is in my own neighborhood".

I believe the tough schedule only improves our team. Playing against the best makes every player improve. If we do this year in and year out we will become one of the tougher opponents people play.

I think this will help us get better, playing better competition. Also, when we beat Iowa it will help us out a lot with bowls and rankings. We are going to be a more respected team as the years go by with this coach.

Iowa is not a 10 win team for the rest of eternity. They are a solid 2nd tier program, but in a snap of a finger they can fall back to 6-6/7-5 territory with a bad class or two.

Tubberville may not pan out at Tech, and they lose a lot of their best players next spring. ATM looks awesome one second, and resembles a turnover prone steaming pile of feces the next. Art Briles is rocking Baylor, but he'll have his hands full keeping that up. The Longhorns are a team of guys that just don't give a rip this year. That program is in severe danger of staying in the toilet next year if they can't get those kids fired up. Year 2 of fail will start to affect their recruiting.

You and Steve Deace need to realize things change. The Big 12 has remained strangely consistent over the last decade. Unfortunately for the rest of the conference the last 12 months have proved ANYTHING is possible now.

Thats what the rest of the conference is dealing with...thats not even factoring in that ISU is improving each time it sets foot on the field.

Yes, as long as we play these "tough" teams close. If we get blown out every year by Iowa, OU, UT then it will not help. I think CPR can do it.

We can get blown out once in a while as long as we win and make it competitive other times.

The problem with the Dan years is that outside of Iowa we NEVER even competed with top ten teams. CPR has a few blowouts already but also a few games that say we're here to compete with everybody. I'll gladly run the risk of playing aggressively. It will mean some scores like Utah and OU but it'll also result in road wins places like Austin and Norman (have to sub Norman for Lincoln but it'll happen).
