    Good DVD Decrypter software?

    Hey everybody,

What is good software that will create DVD movies into video files on your computer? I used to use DVD Decrypter but that is not working anymore. Please let me know!

    Thanks!

I use DVDFab. I'm cheap so I wanted something free, but I did end up forking over $50 for the full version, which includes VSO burn engine. It will decrypt DVDs and convert them to just about any format imaginable (including portable devices). And once you buy it, updates are free for life.

The product I originally bought was called DVDFab Platinum, but this is the current version:

Best free option is called Handbrake. Learn it, live it, love it.

Handbrake is good. You could also try DvdShrink: dvdshrink.org: FREE Backup Solution for your DVD movies! It's free too, and pretty straightforward to use.

I've also had really good success with MakeMKV - Make MKV from Blu-ray and DVDI'm not sure if this is relevant to you, but it also works well with Blu-Ray movies.

DVDShrink hasn't been updated in about 10 years. In fact, I heard the guy who invented it now works for Nero.

I use Handbrake on my linux computer and it's fantastic! I've only come across a handful of DVD's in my collection that I couldn't put onto my hard drive.

It's been a while since I tried to use it on Windows, but I believe that Handbrake required a separate program to perform any decryption.

If you want free options, I use DVDFab to rip, DVDShrink to convert to ISO files, and ImgBurn to burn the ISO to DVD. It's a multi-step process but easy as pie.

I used to use DVDShrink to rip but as someone else pointed out, it hasn't been updated in some time it was unable to rip an increasing number of DVDs over time. I don't think I've found one yet that DVDFab hasn't handled. (Standard definition, by the way, I can't speak to Blu-Ray.)
