    ISU Red Zone offense

The last 6 games ISU had 18 trips in. Those resulted with 16 TD's and 1 FG.

That's phenomenal production. That's an offense thats really getting it done when the opportunity arises.

Thanks for the stat. That is amazing considering our historic RZ struggles (especially under Chizik).

Don't forget McCarney was it '04 when we played Baylor that we were in the red zone like 5 times and came away with a field goal. I don't remember the exact situation but it was something like that. I have noticed that we don't stall out nearly as often and our offensive production has been better of late because of it.

Maybe it has something to do with a little more diversity in the RZ offense besides: run up the middle, run up the middle, fade pass in the back of the end zone, missed FG.

Wait, I thought Herman was an awful OC who is only worth half a dump when CPR was ripping him a new one.

It would be interesting to know how many of those drives started with a short field or if we had to go 80+ to the get the score.

Yeah I loved the two back shoulder fades to Williams last week. Something we never would have seen in years past.

I've always thought Herman made good play calls, they just aren't always exicuted

    Re: ISU Red Zone offense

What I like to see is that as soon as we hit the redzone we go into the NASCAR offense. That makes it much harder for substitution and you can exploit it. Five yards is worth much more in the redzone so if you can catch them in the nickel you may be able to run the ball better and vice versa if you catch them in the 4-3.

And you can talk about all of AAs shortcomings as much as you want, but he throws that ball as well as anyone.

Yes. It drove me crazy watching our offense go up and down the field and then get inside the 20 and implode under Chizik. This staff with Herman has done a much better job calling plays in the redzone and the offense has done a great job executing the plays that are called.

Here is the difference.... in the K-State game we got in the redzone and a penalty on a few of those drives led to no points on the board or a FG. In the Nebraska game we had 2 drives in the redzone in which we took holding calls and we still ended up punching the ball into the endzone. HUGE difference.

    Re: ISU Red Zone offense

We've quit committing the constant red zone penalties. And the few times we have committed red zone penalties, the offense has been so efficient that they've over come it.

Once you see the stats, it really hits you how dramatically this offense has improved over the course of the year.

    Re: ISU Red Zone offense

I've always thought that the best red zone offenses are the strongest physically. Basically, once you get down into the red zone everyone bunches up. If you bunch up you better be stronger than the guy across from you and you better not make any mistakes. If anything this red zone stat makes me feel like Yancy McKnight is as advertised. Our guys are conditioned well.

Another sign that Yancy is earning his paycheck is that we can run the NASCAR offense so well, even after some long drives, and punch it in for 6. Even the big boys can hustle.
