    CU coaches preparing for ISU

Interesting article about CU's preparation for Iowa State. It looks like their coaches might have a wrinkle in mind for the QB situation - they really don't want to burn a year of eligibility for their freshman QB who is redshirting.

I really feel like we have the edge in coaching and preparation, as their interim head coach appears to have the deer in the headlights reaction during the interview. But I worry about the intangibles. I don't think there's much doubt the CU players are going to give a supreme effort and let it all hang out. If our guys can match that effort, I think we'll be okay.

Anybody who doesn't think they'll be ready should watch the press conference from Tuesday. Cody Hawkins was obviously shaken, but we don't know if that'll end up being good or bad. The interim coach, on the other hand, has been there for over 20 years, so including the times that CU was very good, and is obviously very intelligent and passionate about CU football. I would feel better about this game with Hawkins at the helm.

Still have all my faith in the good guys, and I think this is a key game to prove we really are a rising program, but I think the Colorado kids are going to be up for this game. We can't come out flat in the first half. We need to go in there, get a stop, and then score. Take the wind out of them.

I would expect to see some Wildcat after the success that NU had running it.

I expect a lot of wildcat also.

Need a big game out of linebackers.

Exactly. Look for Stewart to take some direct snaps, etc. They are a running team and will look to get going down hill right away.

Can't remember his name but CU has one monster offensive lineman that is a legit top 10 draft pick. I THINK he is the left tackle.

I think we will win this one but I hate the idea that the Buff now have something to rally around.

    He's the #1 projected OL.

I'm sure they will run the wildcat several times. But Colorado only has one real threat at running back. Nebraska had 2 guys that are very capable of making big plays that the defense needed to worry about. Also without having Hansen as a threat to run the ball, the defense can really focus in on Stewart as the only running threat throughout the game.

I'm not feeling very confident about this game. I hope I'm wrong. Go State.

Re: CU coaches preparing for ISU

So the interim coach has been at CU for 20 years?? Don't you think that if he was a good coach, he would have moved on by now for greener pastures?

How good is he at in-game adjustments?

It's way too late in the game to change offensive systems so we will be seeing the same CU offense has everyone else has. They may be running the wildcat a little more, but NU was also using the zone read with Burkhead acting as the QB. This, IMO, made the wildcat more effective since Burkhead played QB in high school and was able to make good reads. I can't see Stewart stepping in and being able to make the same reads with less than a week's worth of prep.

Wow ... I'm sure the players will be motivated but it won't be because this guy is inspiring. yawn. He almost seems dis-interested -- at a minimum he didn't want to be part of this interview.

Re: CU coaches preparing for ISU

That article actually made me a feel a lot better about this game. Sounds like their new interim HC has no idea how to run the offense and will be leaving it all on the OC. I'm betting the more complicated they try and make their offense (i.e., wildcat) the more mistakes in execution we are going to see.

Why is it so hard for us to defend the wildcat? No one ever passes it, and it almost always somewhere inside the tackles.

KSU and NU are really the ony 2 teams that I remember using the wildcat a lot.

NU really wasn't running a true wildcat because they had Burkhead acting as the QB for the zone read which made it more effective.

KSU had one of the top RB's in the big12 running the wildcat against our inferior (at the time) Dline and missing a starting LB. Our DLine has improved and Taufou should be getting back to full strength, although his conditioning may take a hit in the thin air.

Will there be any problem for the Cyclones playing at a high level for the second week in a row? You have to worry a little bit about how much the Nebraska game took out of them. Coming off a last second loss and playing well in the next game is tough.
