For the conspiracy theorists (missle story)

Since the other thread went wildly off-topic, how about this for a conspiracy theory?

Chinese EMP Attack Prompts US Missile Strike After Cruise Ship Crippled

The “immediate effect” of the Chinese Navy’s firing of their EMP missile, this report continues, was the catastrophic crippling of the US based cruise ship Carnival Splendor [photo 3rd left] that stranded its nearly 4,500 passengers and crew in a “dead in the water” boat and prompting the Americans to send the US Navy’s Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier, warplanes, and supply aircraft to protect it from further attack after all of its electronic systems were destroyed.

The purpose of this Chinese EMP upon an American ship, this report says, was twofold: 1.) A test of the EMP weapon itself that in a war against the Americans and would be used against their Naval Fleet and Marine Forces operating out of California and the west coast of the US, and 2.) A test of the response time for American retaliatory measures against any Chinese warship attacking the US and/or its interests in the Pacific.

The GRU further states that the timing of this attack was timed even more crucially due to China’s testing of America’s response time during a period when their President, as Commander In Chief of all US Military Forces, was out of the country, as Obama was as he was in India at the time.

Don't know about that one, though it would not surprise me at all if the missile was launched by the Chinese as a bit of a warning.

EMP theory does not seem to hold water as there are numerous reports of passengers from the ship using cell phones to call relatives. If an EMP had been used, cell phones would be unusable.

That being said, I would not be surprised if there was some sort of connection between the disabled cruise ship and the missile contrails seen off the Califoornia coast.

You mean the plane right? Because it was a plane, optical illusion.

The cruise ship had a fire in the engine room. No connection.

If the people had their phones off during the EMP blast, they could them turn them off afterward and they would still be in use. So in theory, assuming that people actually turn their phones off during a vacation, it would still be possible to use them after the incident in question.

Not true. An EMP will damage electronics regardless of whether they are energized at the time. It would make no difference if the cell phones were turned off.

What if you took the battery out, and replaced it after the blast? Because that is what i figure most people do when on a boat.

Doesn't matter. They'd still be destroyed.

If this story were true, it'd be obvious. The emergency lights most likely wouldn't be working, and everybody's personal electronics (cell phones, mp3 players, etc) would be non-functional.
