    WAC Expansion

Just when I thought a conference couldn't be more irrelevant than the Sun Belt, the WAC announces the conference starting in 2012/13:

    (Existing members)
    Hawaii
    Louisiana Tech
    Idaho
    New Mexico St
    Utah St
    San Jose St

    (New members)
    Denver (except for football)
    Texas St
    Texas-San Antonio
Montana (if they decide to jump up to FBS - if not, then it's Seattle, except for football)

Sources: Denver University, Texas-San Antonio and Texas State to join WAC - ESPN

I would expect Montana to dominate that conference upon entry, and eventually earn a spot in the MWC. No, seriously...

    Re: WAC Expansion

And what happens when TCU gets stolen from the MWC by the big east and the MWC raids the WAC for a team again? Or even more, if the big east grabs Houston as well (as has been rumored), C-USA grabs La Tech to replace them, and the WAC loses 2 teams...

Good news for Tx St and UTSA though.

I would think the MWC goes after CUSA and tries to woo Houston, Rice and/or SMU, as, maybe with the exception of Idaho or Utah St (or potentially Montana after about 5 years), there's really nobody left in the WAC that would be appealing for the MWC. Quite frankly, as I said, the WAC is now even less relevant than the Sun Belt Conference.

I would think Texas State would be able to build fairly quickly, they are a large school aren't they?

I don't think enrollment has much to do with the ability to build a football program. I mean, look at Minnesota - they have in excess of 50k enrollment, but they suck arse...

Mountain West, along with Nevada ( both starting 2012) and Boise St (starting 2011)

Sucks for my boys Hawaii. Having listened to most of their games this year, it sounded like there was huge backing to go independent, but it seems there was just financially no possible way for them to do so.

Let's hope this is what they mean when they say "Conference Expansion is not over yet".

Seriously, can the NCAA deny or strip FBS conference status. That's going to be bad.

    Re: WAC Expansion

I don't get the negativity about this expansion, I think its great and the WAC didn't have a lot of flexibility left anyway. Many of these new programs that are making the jump to FBS have a lot more going for them than Boise did when it made the leap so anything is possible. With the addition of a 12th game a few years back the BCS conferences set the table for more teams to move up to FBS, the paychecks the FCS teams get have helped these teams narrow the gap. Why do you think games with FCS teams have become so much more competitive?
