    Massive Rating Plunge

Anyone notice what happened to our recruit's rankings today on ESPN? Right after they signed every single one of them took a major drop. Elgin Cook went from a 95 to a 90 and out of the top 100, and Sledge a 91 to a 88. Odunsi lost a point as well, and McGee is and probably will remain unranked. The same thing happened to Ejim last year. This is just ridiculous. Are they even playing ball yet for their senior years?

The "experts" would say that part of their ranking is how many schools are recruiting them and the prestige of those schools. By that logic, once they sign somewhere, fewer schools are recruiting them and they are less "valuable." Also, ISU probably carries a lower level of "prestige" than some other schools in ESPNs eyes so they immediately downgrade anyone who signs with us.

On the flip side of this, it's the same reason Van Coleman's ratings of Iowa recruits suddenly skyrocketed once they signed with Iowa. Because as we all know, Iowa is a hugely prestigious program and always has been.

I don't get peoples infatuation with ratings and stars? All of it is simply opinion based by some "experts" who's opinion I could care less about. Most of the time they are nerds who have never participated in an organized game of football or basketball in their life. I will stand by the ISU coaches decision on who they are evaluating, offering and putting on the team.

Its not the evaluation that is critical. It is the fact it was changed on signing day, when no basketball is being played, simply because they chose your program. This should make you mad that all of a sudden a player they liked while watching him hoop it up(Cook for instance) is now lesser for no other reason than his choice of school. Stuff like this should make people cancel their subsciptions to these things.

Ratings really don't do anything. It just gives personal satisfaction (especially for fans).

Same thing happens to girls. A girl may be a 7 or an 8 (possibly a 9 if she was really drunk when we 1st got together and doesn't want to appear as a whore to her friends) when I start to date her. She is going to drop to a 5 or 6, tops.

I guess what is important is, does this have an effect on recruiting? Are there recruits who are aware of this phenomenon and might avoid ISU because they know their ranking will drop? Or perhaps they take the fact that players ranking drops when they sign with ISU as proof that ISU isn't a good program and they should look elsewhere.

Chicks get hotter when I date them. Standing next to me, everyone looks much better by comparison. They seem to have a lot more sex than me when we're dating too.

    Re: Massive Rating Plunge

Dave Telep, who ran bball recruiting coverage for scout.com, recently joined ESPN. I'd expect a major revamp of ESPN's coverage/rankings/system (to the better) in the near future. If our players weren't ranked highly before on scout, they're not going to be ranked highly on espn, as of now.

To be fair, I'm not much of a "rankings are everything" kind of guy, but there are now a good dozen or so guys who do nothing but watch high school/aau ball, and to my surprise, there was very little written (tweeted) on Odunsi or Cook all summer. Sledge had the best offers and has been playing great in east coast aau events this fall, so I'd think he'd move up, not down.

My point is why would they care if their ranking dropped after they sign, or what the ranking was at all? Isn't the point of rankings to get them the offers? Once they sign does it really matter? What's important is they sign though.
