But when Jackson showed up at Sorensonís house Tuesday night, he pulled the trigger to join older brother Andrew at Iowa State.
Nice work coach! I'm surprised it took this much convincing though with his brother here already. ISU vs UNI? There's really a decision there?

UNI commit from Ballard, Hiat, beat him in the first round.

That loss, 6-4 to another returning state champion, I'm much more worried about his 9-5 loss to the kid from Osage. That one worries me. He's still a great get as long as he isn't tieing up a lot of the 9.9 though.

Yeah, like 0 of the 9.9. I'm really concerned with our recruiting.

Well, at the time he was a state champion who was a favorite to repeat. I think that Jackson probably thought he was getting "legacy" two time champ. But at the same time, I know that getting the best Iowa guys is very important to both Iowa and Iowa State. So he had to go out on a limb.

In other words. I won't disagree with your statement because you might be very, very right. But who knows.

I am waiting to see how Jackson's first class does next year before I make a judgment. But I am perfectly willing to judge it as a failure if that is the case.

I'm more inclined to side with 10 on this one. Andrew never really impressed me when he wrestled, and it seemed like he was always wrestling against guys a lot better than him, and that we were weak at that weight. If we want the best in the state, we should be hitting the IC West, Don Bosco, and W-SR teams first for their lightweights to fill in the gaps there.

I won't disagree. I think that getting the best of the state is essential. Though I do disagree on your listing of teams - while those teams usually have the best group of 14, that doesn't mean they have the best individuals. Just like Reader is the top guy at 174 even though we aren't the #1 team this year. We are an elite enough school to attract the best wrestlers in the country, but it is also essential that we find the guys that aren't quite developed yet and bring them to the podium after a few years in Jackson's system.

Look at Iowa this year - they might be the best dual team in the country because they are solid at every weight. But they aren't going to challenge for the championship in March because they don't have enough elite guys.

I guess my point is that identifying and bringing in the best guys for our system is priority number one. We know Jackson can coach up the guys he has, but we don't know yet if he can bring in the best.

What I'm saying is, those schools continually tend to have the most individual champs as well. I realize that not all of them are superstars (I've been less than impressed with quite a few ICW wrestlers this year), but diamonds in the rough aren't the way to go.

Lighter weights? Check out Denver Tripoli. (State champs in the 4 lightest weights last year and a couple going for repeats this year.)

Individuals, there are a couple in the Des Moines area, that would be pretty good gets.

I'm from Denver, and I really like Peters and Sorenson. Peters may be the best wrestler in the state, but he looks small even at 112. If his frame doesn't lengthen, he may not even be an effective 125 pounder in college. Wolfensberger wasn't recruited because Jackson had Ryak Fitch coming in. As good as Wolfensberger was, Fitch was better. I would say that recruiting Sorenson(Brandon) should be a priority.

We need to prioritize at 133 and 141. I think Dylan Peters will be at 125 for a couple years. We need Meeks and possible Cory Clark, if Clark can be 133 after RS. Others, Hathaway, Devos, Carton for light weights. I like Willie Milkus alot. Also it Ryak Finch, and you're right that why we don't need anybody at 125 except a good backup. I want a stud 133 pounder to workout with Finch. Good 1,2 punch.

Clark will likely be 125 his whole career.
