    Big 2 Basketball

ISU wins 100-50 in their exhibition. Iowa won 111-66 in theirs.

Who here is getting PUMPED for in-state basketball again? It's been a while since fans could be this excited to watch their respective brands of basketball. I don't think Iowa scored 111 points in 3 consecutive games last year....

Get back to me when either team beats a team that's not of exhibition caliber...

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

A person can gauge almost absolutely nothing from exhibition and many non-conference games. ISU was scoring a number of points last season and whipping teams pretty good.

Then the real teams showed up - poof.

For Iowa, it may be a bigger deal as they struggled to lace their own shoes last season, let alone win games.

I'm not predicting more wins. Far from it actually. I am predicting more exciting basketball though. I remember Iowa's first exhibition win under Lickliter was a 60-40 win over Simpson College... horrible.

I'm just stoked to watch fast pace bball in this state again, and not that crap we were watching.

I am. You guys will be fun to watch.

Our game in Iowa City just might be an old-school ISU-Iowa track meet, and I can't wait.

Have my seats at midcourt, ready to go!

No more races to 50 for either school, and that's exciting!

    Re: Big 2 Basketball

After attending the exhibition yesterday I will say Iowa could actually be better. I'm not saying they will win 20 games, far from it, but they will win more than 10 because they won't lose to the Duquesne Universities or Texas - San Antonio's of the world this year like they did to start the year last year at 0-2.

I think the Iowa/ISU game will be very entertaining and will be a track meet. I still give Iowa the edge as they have more experience returning and are at home.

    I think we'll have a fantastic, fast-paced game.

I mean this as an honest question. Given that I had the option to pick whatever section I wanted for my tickets to this game, I'm assuming that ticket sales are still pretty poor. How strong will the home-court advantage be, or will it be a rare neutral-court situation?

This looks like one where ISU fans can pack the house. Since the series hasn't been kind to us in Iowa City, that would be a good thing.

So how strong of a home-court advantage are you seeing for that game?

I am super excited to have Freddie back in Hilton and for mens basketball again. But exhibition means nothing.

    Last year's exhibition results:
    Mon, Nov 02, 2009 Black Hills State (Exhibition) - Ames, Iowa 96 - 47 (W)
    Fri, Nov 06, 2009 UNC-Pembroke (Exhibition) - Ames, Iowa 106 - 54 (W)

    Oh...and Iowa sucks.

Just because it is ISU I think Iowa fans will show up. Carver holds 15,500 so I would say 5,000 to 7,000 ISU fans will be there. I know this game didn't sell out 2 years ago when it was in IC and I'm not sure if it will this year. But after seeing them yesterday I think Iowa's attendance numbers will increase this year. Like I said they probably won't be very good (see that as going 13-18 or 14-17) but will be very entertaining to watch and that is what people want to see, I think this brand that Iowa is going to play will slowly start to bring people back. I don't know what the attendance was yesterday but Carver was more than half full so that would put it around 8,000 to 10,000 which is more than regular season games last year.

Home court advantage? Really? I lived in eastern Iowa and attended several Iowa basketball games and it was a ghost town in there. Especially the Illinois game. Embarrassing.

I can work with that. If they bring the passion, then it'll still be something of an advantage.

It's hard to get overconfident about IC yet, since our history there is bad. But I've got that week to work up to it

I think that iowa is going to have a better inside game and that will hurt ISU. I don't expect to win that one. BUT, IMO Fred will turn things around quicker than Fran will. The 2011-12 ISU team will be much further ahead than Fran's second team. My hope is that Fred takes off from there.

I agree attendance has sucked, but Iowa seemed to have a home court advantage the last time ISU came to Carver and they will again this year. 1) This is the best non-conference home game this year and 2) If (big if) Iowa gets off to a fast start this year people will start to come back.
