    Who should we root for?

Alright, can somebody compile the teams we should root for and against to get ISU in the best possible bowl, assuming ISU can get a 6th or 7th win?

it's a long shot, but we need everyone in the big 12, except us, to lose

Should root for those teams that have bowl eligibility, and those that have almost no shot at bowl eligibility, to beat those that are on the edge. Texas would be one to root against at this point.

I've been rooting against Texas since, say, 1996

    Except Colorado...

In the Big XII there is really only one non-ISU game where the winner matters for us. In the Texas vs. A&M game if either of them has a 6th win already you want that team to win. Both will likely be 5-6 going in though, so it probably won't matter. No Big XII teams have been mathematically eliminated from getting 6 wins yet, but I'm guessing we have 9.

Outside the Big XII, what alarson said, we want teams that have 6 wins to keep winning, and teams that don't to keep losing.

    We win out, and convincingly.

Nebraska and Oklahoma State both win out hugely, Nebraska vaults towards the top of the BCS standings, then the Cowboys win the Big XII in overtime. Both teams go to BCS bowls.

Kansas State somehow collapses and loses out.

After beating K-State, Mizzou gets blown out by both us and Kansas.

Texas Tech and Texas both suffer down the stretch and do not reach bowl eligibility.

TAMU ends up with six wins and Baylor with seven. (I think Oklahoma would end with eight if this all were to happen).

If this all happens, best case scenario is the only non-BCS bowl bid ahead of us would be Oklahoma. We could be next in line, with an Alamo Bowl bid.

TAMU already has 6 wins, and I'd bet they finish with 8 or 9.

You're right, I forgot they won yesterday. Plus the Baylor game doesn't look like a sure loss anymore.

Re: Who should we root for?

We don't really NEED anything other than a sixth win to get to a bowl game, but here are some things to root for:

    -ISU to win out (obvious)
-Two Big 12 teams in the BCS (unlikely)
-Texas to fail to get to six wins (very possible)
-Kansas State over Missouri (MU comes to town with three straight losses)
-Baylor to lose out (helps with bowl positioning)
-Texas Tech to finish 6-6 (again, bowl positioning)

For the sake of argument, let's just go ahead and assume that all of the above happens except for getting two teams in the BCS. Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and Kansas State would likely end up in the Fiesta, Cotton, Alamo, Insight, and Holiday bowls in some order. The Texas, Pinstripe, and Dallas Football Classic would be left to pick between the following teams:

8-4 Missouri (losers of four of their last five games)
7-5 Iowa State (winners of four of their last five games)
    7-5 Baylor (three straight losses)
    6-6 Texas Tech

The Texas Bowl would probably take Baylor because they're a Texas team and they haven't been in a bowl forever, but the Pinstripe Bowl would have an interesting decision to make, and I think they would choose us. I don't really see anyway we end up in the Dallas Football Classic because that's probably where Texas Tech will end up.

If we become bowl eligible, no matter whether it's with six or seven wins, we're almost certainly going either to the Pinstripe bowl or another bowl as an at-large selection.

I agree with most of what you said, but I think the Pinstripe takes TTU. Or maybe I just hope they do and that we somehow end up in the Dallas FB Classic since I can drive to that game
