    Potential Recruits...

Say you are a recruit watching our last three games...a victory over the mighty Longhorns, solid Kansas victory, and now a close loss to the #7 team in the country where we didn't back down and punched the bully back. How can you not see that the direction of the program has turned and is heading forward full steam ahead?

    CPR and his staff are:
    1) Not afraid to back down and take chances.
    2) Passionate (understatement)
    3) Willing to put underclassmen in situations they can contribute and succeed
    4) Unwilling to modify their vision based on the short term needs

The team seems willing to run through walls for our coach. That has to get their attention.

I agree absolutely. Whether the recruits do, or not is the question. I believe CPR will land some highly rated recruits as a result of this season. I want this team to win out and win their bowl game. If that scenario happens, the recruits that CPR and co. want will at least seriously consider playing for ISU.

Yes. I don't know why any parent wouldn't want their son to play for CPR. He's one heck of a coach.

    Re: Potential Recruits...

This might be splitting hairs, but I don't think we'll get many "highly rated" recruits though we will see an increase in the the overall talent we are pulling in. The key for ISU will always be developing the 2-3 star players so that after a couple years they can play with the 4-5 star players. I think this staff has the ability to do just that and we will see success on the field.

I think the biggest thing they will see is, if everyone does put in the hard work they can be competitive with the top teams in the country.

Good. Now we just need them to recruit players who can defensively stop a team with first-down at the 25 from scoring a touchdown in 2 plays.

Agreed. Add that CPR is showing that he's a player's coach. The locker room speech after last year's Nebraska win last year, the locker room speech after the Texas win this year, going for the win against Nebraska and having so much faith in all his players that he gave his backup punter that chance to win the game. We may have lost the battle today, but we're still winning hearts and minds and bettering our chance at winning future ones.

I thought Chris said that this was a light weekend for visits right? Surprising, given it was the #7 team in the country.

Our recruits play football too. Can't always travel the weekends of the best games. JUCO's still playing on Saturday, and it's difficult for H.S. players with Friday games to fly in on a Saturday morning in time for an early afternoon game. Coaches actually advise some recruits to take their officials after the season so they can get more time with them.

    Re: Potential Recruits...

I think Rhoads needs to really start being selective with these last commitments in this class.

I count 16 commits already. And we are going to sign a class of around 22 or so, correct?

That leaves only about 6 or so more to go.

And I think the win over Texas, Kansas, and now going toe-to-toe with the #7 team in the country can only help our recruiting. Rhoads himself said that his phone is ringing off the hook with potential recruits calling him and congratulating him on these games.

So I just don't see the need for us to take commitments from kids with no stars behind their names at this point? I'd hate to have a full class committed and then come to find out that some highly rated players wanted to come here.

I just hope we wait a bit before filling out this class. We could win our final two games, go to a pretty decent bowl, and then see who wants to come aboard!

This has is already happening. The last three games we have played like a top twenty team and in Texas and NU we've gone toe to toe with 3-4 star teams. (I think NU and UT are better described as 3-4, very few 5's) A limitation now is that football recruiting is a multiyear process and some of this year's class made up their minds in summer camps. I think this class is showing evidence of great expectations.

And for those who believe in the whole "negative fanbases on message boards destroy recruiting" theory, we now have a coach and team that have the majority of the fanbase believing in their ability to turn goat urine into gasoline. So we've got that going for us. Which is nice. I think.
