"Watch for this disparity to show up most readily in special teams, where the Cyclones field one of the nation's worst kickoff and punt coverage units"
I didnt know we where bad at this at all but I guess I havent looked at the stats? Any thoughts on this??
Our punt return ranking is very misleading. The Utah game absolutely kills us and if you remove that game, we are top 30 with a 6.83/ return average. Punt return ranking also doesn't include how many have not been returned. Kirby has punted 47 times and has only had 18 returned.
We haven't been good at kick return defense but we have to score for that to be a big factor. If we are scroing then that is a good thing
The article shows the writer doesn't know much about ISU. The special teams kick coverage is not an issue with ISU ('cept for Utah as others have pointed out) and he also mentioned that we're not fundamentally sound in our tackling technique due to attempting to create turnovers.
The writer must have last watched an ISU coached by Chizik. I believe CPR said we only had 5 missed tackles against Kansas and had good tackling numbers against Texas as well.
The key to this game is our ability to stop the run against NU and the ability to get good gains on 1st down when wer're on offense. Those two "keys" will determine the outcome, not ISU's "poor" tackling or kick coverage.
