    Martinez

Fanatics, how do we stop him? I know we can, and I know that we can win this game. But this kid has some scary talent.

I have no idea how you stop this guy, but he is a true freshman and not that great of a passer, so it must be possible.

    Re: Martinez

Does anyone know how fast Martinez is? Is it something where we can just take him on the option and leave everything up to Helu? it seems as if he is alot faster than Helu. Maybe I am wrong though.

    Re: Martinez

I think he'll be hurting during our game or be out. He'll still be effective but not super effective.

    Re: Martinez

Defense has to take good pursuit angles, gang tackle and keep him from open field opportunities. Plus I think if we get some good shots on him, that he'll crack.

Just tackle the kid Pelinis style. He will be out of the game in no time.

This. Also keeping him on the sideline with our offense sustaining long drives will help.

We need to have a defender as a "spy" on Martinez,

I recommend Terran "the falcon" Benton...
He hits hard and is always flying to the ball

    Re: Martinez

Texas had a strategy were they actually used 2 spies on him, it completely cut off his ability to take off and run for a big gain. The trade off was that using 2 guys from their LBs and DBs almost every play meant that we had someone open on almost every pass we had, but a combination of bad throws and drops made that irrelevant. OSU tried the same strategy next week and this time Martinez made the throws and our WRs made the catches and we scored 51 points and we had 323 yards passing.

Based on that if you guys try a defensive game plan similar to that it looks like it could either work really well (Texas) or completely backfire (Okie St.). I think a lot of it would depend on how good your secondary is and their ability to cover our receivers one on one.

Of course if Zac Lee winds up starting that changes everything.
