    Harry Potter Fans

    Who croaks and why?

Hasn't Rowling said two characters die in the final book.

My money is on Harry and Voldemort.

I think the prophecy can be interpreted to mean that if only one were to survive between Harry and Voldemort, both will die. Their fates are intertwined.

"Neither can survive while the other lives."

I'm going to the lake this weekend with friends... and honestly I have to admit I'm going to be wondering about the book that's going to be delivered to my house same day on the 21st. I might have to skip work on monday to read it.

Is your wife 12? I never got into the whole harry potter, it is like reading Narnia as an adult. It is just not as cool.

Hey - I didn't read Narnia all the way thru UNTIL I was an adult...

I guess the next series on my list to finish is Little House On The Prairie...

I hope shes not 12. i would have a whole mess of new problems. Have you read the Harry Potter books? if not you cant make that judgment. Especially the newer ones. they are less kid friendly. I have never read them myself all the way through because I dont have the patience. I would rather wait for the movies.

No, I have not read any since the first one. Maybe that one was just too kiddy for me.

could be. From what the movies and my wife have shown me. It has been progressing toward adult much like the life of a real person. It has been getting darker as well.

    Re: Harry Potter Fans

Agreed, bostinelosd. The last 3 books (and I assume this one, as well) are pretty dark and very long. Hell, the 5th one was just shy of a thousand pages. That's twice as long as most adult novels... brianhos, they really do change a lot after the second book and are great reads. I typically read pretty intellectual stuff because I can't stand the stuff that's pawned off as adult fiction, but the Harry Potter books honestly are very good. I recommend at least 3-7, but if you refuse on principle to read 1 and 2, find good summaries of them. The plot points and characters in any book are important in later ones.

As for Narnia, I completely disagree with you. I was never able to read that series as a kid, though I tried many times. It's just not riveting enough to keep a kid interested, and most of the stuff is going to go over their heads anyway. Those books are far more appropriate for an adult than a child.

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Out of all the books, the first one is probably my least favorite. I liked the sense of discovery, but looking back, yeah, it's definitely tailored for the younger crowd. It gets a whole mess better by the third book.

By the way. Has anyone seen the new movie yet? It wasnt my fave so far but the wizard battles were stunning. I loved those parts. Gary Oldman is awesome. Every time I see him in these movies though, I always picture him as Dracula. The casting for these movies has been superb.
