If the Cubs win a World Series

If the Cubs win a World Series again what do you believe would happen with the fan base?

Re: If the Cubs win a World Series

As in most sports, after a championship season, there will be an influx of bandwagon fans who will buy team gear and wear it for a season or so after but then the they will fade away leaving the core fan group. I recall that after the Marlins won the series back in 1997, there were quite a few people in the upper midwest wearing their gear...not so anymore.

The fan base would allow Steve Bartman back in town.

The same thing that happened with the Red Sox. After they won the series people who had never been to Boston before were wearing Red Sox caps and jerseys.

I guess I don't understand the point of the poll. Since when does a World Series ever have a negative impact on number of fans and merchandise sales?

His insinuation is that the Cubs fanbase has been stereotyped as a "lovable loser" fanbase, and that being a fan of the Cubs may lose some of its allure if they actually win.

Re: If the Cubs win a World Series

Ah, that makes more sense now.

But I still vote that it would increase their fans. As long as the atmosphere at Wrigley Field remains similar to a frat party, they won't be hurting with fans.

Like it was Bartman's fault. The cubs had already remembered they were the cubs at that point and folded.

I'd do the same thing if ISU won a national championship. Go into my classroom without pants. Then, after I got fired, I'd become a polititian.

Re: If the Cubs win a World Series

It was pretty freakin awesome when the Sox won it all, but it could NEVER compare to ISU pulling off something in men's basketball or football. I'd probably cry for joy.

Re: If the Cubs win a World Series

Well I think you saw it happen at the beginning of the year with Brewer fans. At first they were on a hot streak and fans of all kinds came out and showed whatever loyality they may have had. But now that they have slowed down, the buzz has diminished some and now you get threads like these and fans just the same going nuts over Cubs baseball because they are the hot team right now.

I am a Cubs fan through thick and thin, but there is no question that the fan base and merchadise sales would increase for a short periord of time and the level out once the next year rolls around. Espcially if they turn out to be a clone of their southside counterparts.

Where did all those Sox fans go?

Edit: The one thing that would drop are the elderly who can finally drop dead as a happy Cubs fan instead of waiting that one more year! 100 years is a long time to live.
