To Control one's own Destiny - GOOD to be Iowa State (just ask Iowa)!

Iowa State is very rarely a title contender. I understand that we are rebuilding with Chizik/DMac kids and yet to have a majority of Rhoads players contributing. But these are mostly teenagers playing other teenagers (mostly) from Nebraska and Missouri. We're not talking Texas (and we beat them soundly) or Oklahoma (ehm ehm). My point is that we control our own destiny and I hope our kids realize that and take advantage of the situation. What makes it even sweeter is that these games are in Ames. Winning at Texas gave us a HUGE boost in our confidence. While watching the KU game, I was NEVER nervous - even when we fumbled and went 3 and out the first 3 offensive possesions. The team has a confident look right now. The players almost always look out to the people and engage the crowd to make noise. They didn't seem to be down and worried about the plays. I have seen Arnaud nervous before and not any more. The players are talking, clicking and the team chemistry is electrifying. Why not win the rest of the way and win the title?

Some of you may think I am just creating this thread for nothing and I hope you don't think that. To control our own destiny is a privilage. Just ask Iowa - they wish they had this opportunity!

It is pretty nice to control our own destiny. And I was glad to not be as nervous as I thought I was going to be for KU.

Not to rain on the parade, but every team controls their own destiny at some point in the season. Granted, it's not often that we're still able to say that this late in a season, which is a testament to our team, but let's not make more of it than it really is.

Winning against both Nebraska and Missouri (& at Boulder too) is a very unlikely scenario. Possible? Yes! Likely? No.

Either way its good to have the tough games at home, rather than on the road.

Good times on Hawkeyenation.com after the 2010 Wisconsin Game!

Actually doesn't Iowa control their own destiny in the Big 11? If they win out they will tie for first place in the Big 11 with one loss with either Wisky and/or Michigan State. I can't remember what the three way tie breaker is in the Big 11???

I don't know; I'd be pretty fricken happy sitting with 2 losses and a possible BCS bowl bid right now.

Ok, this bothers me, and I need to get it out of my system.

By the very definition of the word destiny, you can not control it. It is an event (or a course of events) that will inevitably happen. You have no control of them. I know what the phrase is trying to say, but it's ridiculous! Destiny is fate, and you can't control it...

Re: To Control one's own Destiny - GOOD to be Iowa State (just ask Iowa)!

If Iowa wins out they will tie for the Big Ten and most likely play in a BCS Bowl(granted not necessarily the Rose). So I think if you did "just ask Iowa" fans, they aren't exactly bowing down at ISU's position right now.
It's nice to be in a position of 'you win out and you win the conference'. But it still comes down to the team you have on the field. One thing is for sure, there is a ton of football left to be played. And it's not going to be an easy road no either school.

Yes. Congratulations. Now all the Cyclones need to do is beat Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri and Oklahoma/Baylor/winner of the South and they'll be in the Fiesta Bowl!
