So it's adding Villanova and one other team. Central Florida would probably be the most logical addition. Maybe East Carolina.

It would be nice if they did. Could end this speculation to the Big Ten every 5 years and maybe have a little stability around here.

So it is what, Villanova and who? I mean, I'm sure that they'll prefer Vill and ND, but that ain't happenin. SO, ND is out of the Big East basically. I look for the Big 12 to give them a nice landing place for their non football sports (and offer the same to BYU). Then, if things ever go down where superconferences are the way to get into a playoff, we have two teams ready to join.

I'm guessing UCF is the next Big East team. Either them or Memphis or possibly ECU. Actually, if I were them, I'd think real hard about booting those non-FB teams.

I heard Texas called them and ask them to take us since we beat there *****. Texas does not like teams beating them like that.

I never thought about that option; that would be REALLL nice.

Interesting point on the non-FB ND sports. Don't you think they'd opt for something more along the lines of the Atantic10 or whatever conference forms when the basketball schools break-off in the aftermath?

I would think they would just form a new conference. There were some rumors of the non FB playing teams looking into this a couple years ago. St. John's, Seton Hall, Providence, DePaul, Marquette, Georgetown, Villanova (at the time, obviously they wouldn't join if they move up to FBS football). Pick up Notre Dame and a couple other private midwest or eastern schools, Loyola Chi, Butler and that could be a decent league. Or they could try to raid some of the A-10's better teams, Temple, Xavier, St. Joes.

I'm sure St. Louis would jump at that. SLU has wanted out of the A10 for a while and haven't been too shy about it.

    Re: Big East FB Expansion

I would think that ND to the Big East has a better possibility than ND to the Big10+2. ND wants to win. They want an opportunity to get to a BCS even with above average teams. There is no easier path than in the Big East. Adding ND will guarantee the Big East keeps its BCS tie-in and ND has such distinct advantages over the other schools I would guess that they would represent the conference at least once every three years. That would be much better than their current situation. Also, since their current TV package doesn't seem to include a basic cable lineup (at least I've never seen them on ABC), perhaps ND could still find a loophole that they could keep NBC for their locals until the next round of bidding. Might be far fetched, but still a possibility.

You raise a really good point. ND football is at the point where the only success they can point to is the glory days of the past. A lot of folks see them teetering on the bring of long term mediocrity, but I doubt you could convince Jack Swarbrick of that. But if, and this is a big if, the heads of the powers that be have shrunk to the point where they are even the tiniest bit uncomfortable about the future stability of Notre Dame Football, they may look to the Big East as the easiest path back to relevance. They can out recruit any team in that conference, and it's not a stretch to see them near the top and competing for their BCS bid on a yearly basis. Why join the Big 10 or Big 12, when they could join the Big East and still maintain their big fish in a little pond status?

Who knows if that's what they're actually thinking, but it certainly seems logical.

Surprised nobody has brought up TCU yet. That possibility has been all over the radio since first brought up on Mike and Mike this morning.
