    Suggestions for places to live

Looking to get a house/duplex/apartment for next year (fall 11-spring12) with 4 guys including myself. Any suggestions of places to look? I really don't want to go through campustown management because I have never heard a positive comment about them.

    Thanks

Lots of cheaper alternatives in West Ames. Jensen Property Management, University Plains, and University West are a few of them.
I would recommend looking into a house. I'm not sure where you would start looking but I'm regretting the fact I've never lived in one while I've been here.

Emerald Drive. About the same driving time as west ames (its south of 30 off duff, but its quicker since you can jump on 30 and up university faster than you can get up mortensen\state or south dakota\lincoln way), and there are some great, spacious, townhomes at great prices. Technically 3br, but the 'office' downstairs can easily be converted into another bedroom. On top of that you've got a huge unfinished area in the basement (great for drinking games) and 2 separate living\family room type areas. About 300\person if you have 4 people for 2400 sq ft.

If you guys like to party living out in West Ames or somewhere like Emerald Drive can be a pretty big hassle. Nothing you can't get over but looking back I wish I would have lived closer to Welch.

Although it probably doesn't have to be said, stay away from Freddy court. Way, way, way overpriced for the tiny apartment you get.

I beg to differ. We had some amazing parties at that house on emerald, and its not difficult at all to get on the drunk bus to\from there.

Edit- also, tons of parties out in west ames as well, its not that big a deal there either. Some of the best parties i went to were in some of the fieldstone apartments.

If you don't live right next to Campustown, it's not that big of a deal to live somewhere along the drunk bus route like west Ames. It's cheaper and the 1A red bus comes by often during the day during the week. Not hard to get to class.

We dealt with Hunziker and they seemed to be alright in the short time we rented from them. I know they deal with a lot of options (houses, apartments, etc.) I agree with the above poster who said go for a house. That's one of my biggest regrets also is never living in a house at some point. With 4 guys, that would be a blast.

Yeah I would love to find a house but they are very hard to come by it seems.

    -Free utilities
    -Free cable
    -Free high speed internet
    -Washer/dryer
    -Furnished+appliances
-Plentiful parking (especially if all four of you have cars)
-Cardinal route every 5 minutes on class days

Don't knock Freddy too hard, it really depends on your personal priorities.

Do not, and I repeat, DO NOT, live at University Plains. The mgmt is horrible.

A little off-topic... but I still can't get over the fact of how easily they LOVE giving visitors parking tickets out there in that half-full cement wasteland. I parked out there a handful of times to stop by and visit friends. Got one ticket and a few other close calls... It's ridiculous. It's NEVER full. Don't expect an easy time for visitors to find an empty visitors stall very often... (there's like 10 total in all of Freddy Court it seems).

Not if you know what you are doing. We got a house on hunt this year and I wouldn't live anywhere else. It doesn't even bother me that hunt is tame this year.

Do not go with University west. They screwed us every chance they got.
