Football Players on ISU Track Team

Do we currently have any FB players who also compete in track for ISU or have we had any in the recent past?

I know EIU has had some players besides Tim Dwight who have competed for them in track as well as FB.

The post about Teddy Lampkin's visit this weekend and his high school track career got me wondering if we just haven't had the speed on our FB team for any of our guys to compete for ISU in track as well, or if the coaching staff discourages players to do both and focus on football if they have the desire/ability.

    Your thoughts??

R.J. Sumrall was a Drake Relays champ for the track team.

    Andy Kohler was a 7-foot high-jumper.

Flipped through the two rosters quickly, but didn't see any names that matched up between the two.

Currently, here at Iowa, I can really only think of Paul Chaney Jr, who's currently on both the football and track squads. But at the same time, we rarely unleash his speed.

I'm pretty sure I remember a few players running track in the past couple of years.

I may be mistaken but I believe he stopped competing on the track team after a few years at ISU. He never beat his high school records, and I heard it may have been due to the fact that he was putting on upper body weight for football.

Seem to remember a DB named Harris running a little track in the 80s.

Actually Andy was on a track scholarship until his scholarship was converted to FB his senior year. He could not compete in games with the FB team until he was on a FB scholarship.

The big boys used to get by the FB scholly limits by putting all of their WR's on track scholarships so now if you are on scholly and play FB, it counts against your FB total.

Too bad he got injured before he really got to play.

EDIT: Andy lettered 4 years in track (00-03)

    Gestapo In!!

    Gestapo State!!

    What's going on?

You can spend a lot of time and money picking out the perfect floral bouquet for your date ... but you're probably better off checking if you have bad breath and taking the porn out of the glove compartment.

The moral: you gain more by not being stupid, than you do by being smart. Smart gets neutralized by other smart people. Stupid does not.
