My only thing that kind of bugged me is the fact that it just doesnt seem plausible that he'd be able to walk and what not after being in the hospital. Especially with an IV drying up and not having food/water of the sort for how long a time period it was he was stuck there while the zombie's were destroying everything.
I thought it was really good. The only issue (miniscule) I had with it was at the end. My mom flew into town to visit and we were watching it and as soon as he got into the city I said to her "There's no way that horse is going to get out alive and it's going to **** me off." Lo and behold...but, I'm a sucker for animals and just hate seeing them get killed, even when I know it's fake. Call me a softie if you will.
If it follows the source material(The Walking Dead is an ongoing comic series), they wil not get to how it started in any of the first few seasons. Its more about how various survivors have dealt with the problem. It is a very good series.
